Next month’s roster of activities at North Fort Myers Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Café

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

Free informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Books & Bites

11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7

2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17

Join us for an hour of books, fun and conversation. Everyone is welcome to stop by to discuss their favorite books. Get recommendations on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Refreshments will be provided.

Masquerade Ball

6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15

Come one, come all and join us in this magical night to make merry. Dress in your most fantastical attire and bring your most mysterious mask. Immerse yourself in this fantasy night of fairies, elves, nobles and more.

DIY Craft Club: Shrinky Dink Jewelry

2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24

Design and create unique, playful jewelry using Shrinky Dink plastic in this fun throwback craft program just for adults. All materials will be provided and registration is required.

Children’s Programs

Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum: Mollusks on the Move

11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2

Children and their families are invited to join us for this very special program presented by The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum that will look at mollusks and land snails. There will be a story read, a craft and a surprise visit from some local marine life.

Kids Read Down Fines

2 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.

Read to Dogs

2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12

Join us at the library to read to dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. You can read down fines or just encourage a love of reading in your children with reading to dogs.

Preschool Play Date

11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16

For families with children ages 3-5. Meet new friends while developing early literacy skills through free play with games, toys and music.

Family Craft Saturday

11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19

Children of all ages and their families are invited for a morning of crafting. All supplies will be provided, just bring your creativity. No registration required.

Baby Bubble Dance

11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24

Babies up to 18 months are invited to join us for a Baby Bubble Dance. We will be dancing among the bubbles and blowing our own as we listen to our favorite tunes.

Family Movie Day

1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26

Children and their families are invited to join us for a family movie. The movie will be rated G.

Books and Blankets

6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29

Join us with your blankies and pajamas for this nighttime edition of storytime. Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.
