North Fort Myers man dies in traffic crash
A North Fort Myers man has died following a single-vehicle traffic accident Monday night on I-75 in Charlotte County.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 11:41 p.m. Monday when a 2005 Ford Ranger pickup was traveling north in the center lane of I-75, south of U.S. 17, at Mile Marker 162, when the left rear tire of the truck blew out.
The driver of the pickup, a 61-year-old North Fort Myers man, then lost control of the vehicle and it traveled off the roadway to the right and overturned. The right front passenger in the pickup, a 52-year-old North Fort Myers man, was ejected. He was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced deceased, FHP reported.
According to the FHP, the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and another passenger in the pickup, a 34-year-old Cape Coral woman, suffered serious injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts, the report notes.
The accident remains under investigation.
