Next month’s roster of activities at North Fort Myers Public Library offers topics for all ages.

The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Books & Bites

11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8

Join us for an hour of books, fun and conversation. Everyone is welcome to stop by to discuss their favorite books. Get recommendations on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Refreshments will be provided.

Queen Elizabeth II: “Her Majesty” Performance

2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9

She was a true icon, inspiring people around the world with her strength, courage, resilience, and dedication to a life of service. Queen Elizabeth II is performed by actor Sheryl Faye, who has been bringing stories of historical women to life in a unique and memorable way for over a decade.

English Cafe

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Jan. 11, 18, 25

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

DIY Craft Club: New Year, New You

2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11

The New Year is time for a new you. Join us for a relaxing hour and make spa products for your next DIY spa night at home. This program is for adults only. All materials will be provided and registration is required.

Dealing with Dementia

9:30 a.m. Fridays, Jan. 12, 19

An evidence-based two-part workshop for family caregivers to understand dementia, manage challenging behaviors, handle stress and find time for themselves. Class size will be limited. This program is presented by The Dubin Center. To register for this program, you agree to attend both classes.

Disney Trivia Night

6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16

Calling all Magic Kingdom super fans. Test your knowledge of heroes, villains and all things Disney at this fun trivia night for teens and adults.

LCSO Series: Personal Safety2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17

Join the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit and learn practical tips to keep you and your family safe. Learn ways to recognize potential safety risks and vulnerabilities and learn what to do if a confrontation is unavoidable.

Book Discussion: “Happiness Falls” by Angie Kim

2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18

Mia’s father and her brother Eugene, who has the rare genetic condition Angelman syndrome and cannot speak, went for a walk in a nearby park but only her brother returned. What follows is both a ticking-clock investigation into the whereabouts of a father and an emotionally rich portrait of a family whose most personal secrets just may be at the heart of his disappearance.

Children’s Programs

STEAM Saturday: Oobleck

11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6

Is Oobleck a solid or a liquid? Let’s find out together. This month will feature an activity based on the aspects of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. This is a great opportunity for parents and kids to build, learn and play together.

Meet Our Community Helpers: LCSO

1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3

Join us as we celebrate our community helpers. Kids will be able to meet a sheriff’s deputy and get a treat from the LCSO Ice Cream Response Unit. This event will take place outside, rain or shine.

Preschool Play Date

11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10

For families with children ages 3-5. Meet new friends while developing early literacy skills through free play with games, toys and music.

Little Explorers and Sensory Play

11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11

For families with babies up to 18 months. Play with your baby and meet new friends during this special sensory play date that promotes social skills, motor skills and helps develop early literacy skills. This play date will include sensory toys, games and music to encourage a fun and bonding experience with your baby. No registration required.

Read to the Dogs

2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13

Join us at the library to read to the dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. You can read down fines or just encourage a love of reading in your children with reading to dogs.

Kids Read Down Fines

2 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.

Family Storytime

11 a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 17, 24, 31

For children through age 5 and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Baby Rhyme Time

11 a.m. Thursdays, Jan. 18, 25

For babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment. Space is limited. Arrive early and visit the children’s desk to check in. First-come, first-served.

Family Craft Saturday

11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20

Children and their families are invited to join us for a morning of crafting. All supplies will be provided, just bring your creativity.

Teen Programs

Read to the Dogs

1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13

Join us at the library to read to the dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. You can read down fines or just encourage a love of reading in your children with reading to dogs.

Teens and tweens ages 10-18 are invited to join us for fun and games. Bring your friends and we will provide the games and snacks.
