North Fort Myers High School Center for the Arts to present ‘SIX: Teen Edition’
North Fort Myers High School Center for the Arts will take to the stage next month with its own production of a Tony Award-winning show.
NFMHS is presenting “SIX: Teen Edition,” a British musical comedy with music, book, and lyrics by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. NFMHS Theatre Director Janelle Laux describes the show as a modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII, presented in the form of a pop concert.
“This is a dream production for myself and my students,” Laux said. “We know that the show is a challenge to produce but we are rising to the occasion and the audiences will not be disappointed.”
In the show, each of the wives, Catherine of Aragon (played by Jay Encalada), Anne Boleyn (Rilyn Dick), Jane Seymour (Emma Bambrey), Anna of Cleves (Grace Duncan), Katherine Howard (Mia Zottolo), and Catherine Parr (Ava Stoeberl), take turns telling their story to determine who suffered the most from their common husband.
Students have rehearsed the show for eight weeks, with all costumes, sets, props, lights, and sound created by NFMHS students and volunteers.
Laux said the tech team consists of their costume design class who sew all costumes, and the stagecraft class who built the set.
“We also have two generous parents, Tim Turco and Paola Zottolo, who volunteer their time to come in and help build the sets alongside the students,” Laux said.
The show’s lighting designer is senior Landon McCarthy, and the sound design is by sophomore Cullen Zsebe.
“We have two talented seniors who have taken on the task of vocal directing the production, Dominic Pilozo and Mia Durso,” Laux added. “Our choreographer is our dance teacher, Amy Valerius.”
Laux said “SIX” is a production that “brings together the best parts of Broadway.”
“From the incredible dancing and vocals to the powerful story that each queen tells throughout the show. We incorporate the audience through a contest of sorts throughout the show and our goal is to have everyone on their feet singing and dancing by the end. The show itself was chosen to showcase our students and bring to light the talents they each posses. As individuals each of these young ladies are beyond talented, but when we put them together for this production they absolutely light up the auditorium with their energy and gifts.
“I know that audiences will connect with this show and be able to leave with a sense of what our North Fort Myers Theatre program bring to theatre.”
Shows take place at the NFMHS auditorium, and take place Oct. 25 to 26 at 7 p.m., and October 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale at https://northfortmyerstheatre.ticketleap.com/six/.
