Family Initiative to host nationally recognized autism advocate during Parent Group Speaker Series this weekend
Family Initiative will feature the speaker series, “Behind the Mask: The Untold Story of Autistic Women” during its Parent Group Speaker Series this weekend.
Haley Moss, a neurodiversity expert, attorney, author, nationally recognized autism advocate, and the first openly autistic lawyer in Florida, is the speaker.
She has written five books, which focus on helping neurodivergent individuals navigate professional and personal challenges. Those books include “Great Minds Think Differently,” “The Young Autistic Adult’s Independence Handbook,” and “Talking the Talk About Autism.”
Her discussion will explore the lived experiences of autistic women and the concept of masking, which includes strategies used to navigate social expectations.
The speaker series will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Family Initiative Golisano Autism Community Hub, 3221 Chiquita Blvd. S.
“Family Initiative created our Speaker Series to provide parents and caregivers access to connection, conversations, experiences, and valuable information and resources in a safe, supportive environment at our Golisano Autism Community Hub,” said David Brown, president and co-founder of Family Initiative in an email. “As the first autistic attorney in Florida, Haley Moss brings a perspective that is both deeply personal and highly professional. Her voice is critical in helping broaden understanding, especially around the experiences of women and girls diagnosed with autism that are often overlooked.”
A livestream option will be available for the event, which is open to parents, caregivers, and community members.
