District One is 12 counties: Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Lee, Manatee, Okeechobee, Polk and Sarasota
Bartow — This weekly report is prepared by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects.
Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY
US 41 from Midway Boulevard to Paulson Drive: Maintenance project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside northbound closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, while crews perform geotechnical work.
US 41/Tamiami Trail from Payne Street to Rio Villa Drive: Construction project: Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours while crews resurface the roadway, construct curb, gutter, sidewalk drainage, signage, and signalization improvements.
· Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures from Aqui Esta Drive to Payne Street during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays while crews perform earthwork, construct curb and gutter, concrete traffic barriers, and turn lanes in the median.
Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is late fall 2023.
COLLIER COUNTY
I-75 from the Toll Booth to Collier Boulevard: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway and construct guardrail.
· Motorists should expect northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is late summer 2023.
I-75 from mile marker 76 to the mile marker 100/toll plaza: Construction project: Crews will widen and resurface the roadway as well as construct new guardrail and animal crossings. Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures during daytime hours through the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.
I-75 from the Broward County line to the east of the bridge over Wildlife Crossing #15: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway and construct new guardrail and animal crossings. Motorists should expect intermittent southbound and northbound lane closures during daytime hours through the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work in the roadway. The expected project completion is spring 2024.
US 41/Tamiami Trail from Davis Boulevard to Courthouse Shadows: Construction project: Improvements include adding mid-block crossings and pedestrian signals, milling and resurfacing, and making sidewalk repairs within the project limits. Motorists should expect lane closures during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours. Expected completion is late spring 2023.
US 41 from 10th Street North to 9th Street North: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews construct underground utilities. A temporary traffic signal will be installed during construction. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.
US 41 from Tomato Road to CR 92 Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews construct a temporary bypass road. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.
US 41 at the Treviso Bay Entrance east of Johns Street: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews make turn lane modifications. Motorists should use caution as crews work on the roadway.
US 41 from Gordon Street to Bamboo Street: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent southbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews construct underground utilities. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.
SR 84/Davis Boulevard from Ospreys Landing to West Crown Point Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews replace underground utilities. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.
DESOTO COUNTY
SR 70 over Joshua Creek Bridge: Construction project: Crews will be making repairs to the bridge, including spall repairs to substructure and superstructure, non-structural pile jackets and slope protection repairs. There is a possibility of lane closures on SR 70 over the Joshua Creek Bridge during construction. Estimated completion is spring 2023.
GLADES COUNTY
US 27 from south of Hendry County line to north of Old US 27: Construction project: Crews will be making improvements to US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27. The project includes resurfacing US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27, outside shoulder widening on southbound US 27 at Old US 27, guardrail replacement and installation of signing and pavement markings. During construction there may be daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27
· Motorists should expect northbound and southbound single daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 27 from south of the Hendry County line to north of Old US 27.
Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is spring 2023.
SR 78 Sidewalks at Various Locations: Construction project: Crews will be installing five-foot sidewalks with a retaining wall along the south side of SR 78 from Access Road to Ben Street and from Chobee Street to Lake Drive and from Linda Road to Buckhead Ridge RV & Boat Storage. Other improvements include signing and pavement markings and drainage improvements. During construction daytime lane closures will occur on SR 78.
· Motorists should expect daily intermittent lane closures on SR 78 throughout the project limits until project completion.
· Road closure: Lake Drive off of SR 78 has been closed at the intersection of SR 78 and Lake Drive. Crews are placing a drainage pipe under the road and a detour is in place for approximately four weeks. Please follow detour signs and use caution in the area.

HARDEE COUNTY

HIGHLANDS COUNTY
US 27 from Glades County line to Polk County line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along US 27 northbound and southbound from the Glades County line to the Polk County line. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.
US 27 at Lake Mirror Drive: Construction project: Crews will construct of a bi-directional median at the intersection of US 27 and Lake Mirror Drive. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures during construction. Please use caution and watch for crews working in the work zone.
· Motorists should expect intermittent single daytime lane closures on northbound and/or southbound US 27 at Lake Mirror Drive Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
· Motorists should expect the crossover to Lake Mirror Drive from southbound and northbound US 27 to be closed. Please follow signage to the next crossover or turn lane.
Estimated completion is spring 2023.
US 27 at South Lakeview Road: Construction project: Crews will be widening US 27 at S. Lakeview Road for off-set left turns. Additional work includes constructing asphalt bulb-outs and installing a traffic signal at the intersection of US 27 and South Lakeview Road. Please use caution and watch for crews working in the work zone.
· Motorists should expect intermittent single daytime lane closures on northbound and/or southbound US 27 at Lakeview Road Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Estimated completion is spring 2023.
US 27 from south of SR 70 to north of SR 70: Construction project: Intersection improvements. Crews will be reconstructing the intersection with concrete pavement, resurfacing SR 70 and US 27 near the intersection, shoulder work, drainage improvements, signalization, and lighting, and signing and pavement markings.
· Motorists should expect daytime intermittent lane closures on US 27 and SR 70 near the intersection.
· Traffic has been shifted on eastbound and westbound SR 70 and northbound and southbound US 27, while crews place concrete pavement on the roadway. Each direction is down to one lane of traffic near the intersection. Please follow signage and use caution in the area.
· The driveways for Circle K and the BP Station will be impacted while crews place concrete at the intersection. Motorists will need to access Circle K from SR 70 and BP from US 27. The Circle K driveway off US 27 will be utilized as an Exit Only and the BP driveway off SR 70 will be utilized as an Exit Only. These driveway impacts are expected to be in effect until the end of March 2023.
Estimated completion is summer 2023.
SR 17 (Main Street) from Central Avenue to Memorial Drive: Special use permit: The City of Avon Park is hosting the Spring-A-Palooza event Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. SR 17 (Main Street) in Avon Park will be closed from Central Avenue to Memorial Drive from 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, through 8 p.m. on March 26, 2023. Please follow detour signs and allow extra travel time.
SR 17 (Main Street) from Central Avenue to Memorial Drive: Special use permit: The City of Avon Park is hosting the Spring-A-Palooza event Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26th, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. SR 17 (Main Street) in Avon Park will be closed from Central Avenue to Memorial Drive from 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, through 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Please follow detour signs and allow extra travel time.
LEE COUNTY
Sanibel Causeway Emergency Restoration: As a part of the Emergency Restoration of the Sanibel Causeway, crews continue work on McGregor Boulevard and the Sanibel Causeway from Port Comfort Road to Sanibel Island. The causeway islands surrounding the temporary roadway are an active work zone and are currently closed for public access.
· In late March, motorists should expect lane closures on McGregor Boulevard between the toll plaza and Port Comfort Road for geotechnical work. More details will be provided next week.
· Westbound McGregor Boulevard has been reduced to one lane approaching and through the toll plaza.
· Crews continue driving sheet pile around the causeway islands.
· Crews continue earthwork on the causeway islands.
· Bicyclists are encouraged to utilize another mode of transportation to travel the causeway.
· Pedestrians are not permitted on the Sanibel Causeway.
Many oversized vehicles are crossing the causeway to assist with recovery efforts on the island. Please be patient as travel may be slower than usual. MOTORISTS ARE REMINDED TO OBEY THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 20 MPH. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway.
I-75 at Colonial Boulevard (mile marker 136): Construction project: Crews begin construction on the I-75 at Colonial Boulevard Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project. Other improvements along Colonial Boulevard include a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of Six Mile Cypress Parkway/Ortiz Avenue and a Superstreet intersection at the Colonial Boulevard/Forum Boulevard intersection. I-75 will also be widened to provide an auxiliary lane in each direction from Colonial Boulevard to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The off-ramps at Colonial Boulevard DDI and the northbound offramp at SR 82 will have emergency stopping sites.
· Through Saturday, March 25, northbound traffic will be shifted to the west of the center median, allowing work to take place east of and within the center median. Motorists should expect one right turn lane, one through lane and one left turn lane in the southbound direction as well as one northbound lane through the intersection.
· Beginning Saturday, March 25, to Sunday, April 2, all traffic will be shifted to the east side of the roadway, allowing work to be completed on the west side. Motorists should expect one right turn lane, one through lane and one left turn lane in the southbound direction as well as one northbound lane through the intersection.
· Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on I-75 and the on and off ramps at SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of construction.
· Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures on SR 884/Colonial Boulevard during the nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway throughout the duration of the project. The expected completion date is mid-2024.
SR 884/Colonial Boulevard at Winkler Avenue: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.
US 41 from Hickory Drive to Emerson Square Boulevard: Construction project: Crews are resurfacing the roadway and reconstructing medians at Hickory Drive, San Carlos Boulevard, Shadow Creek Boulevard, and Harborage Drive. The resurfacing will be done overnight/nighttime between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway. The expected project completion is early 2024.
US 41/Tamiami Trail at Big Pine Way: Maintenance project: As part of the emergency restoration due to Hurricane Ian, crews will be repairing signals at the intersection. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.
US 41 from Tara Boulevard to French Creek Lane: Construction project: Crews are constructing a sidewalk on the west side of US 41 from Tara Boulevard to French Creek Lane. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures through the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.
US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Construction project: Crews will be installing and relocating utilities and constructing medians on US 41/Cleveland Avenue from Winkler Avenue to SR 82.
· Expect Crawford Street closed on the east side of US 41 / Cleveland Avenue.
· Motorists should expect side road closures from Winkler Avenue to Victoria Avenue throughout the duration of the project.
· Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures and detours on US 41/Cleveland Avenue during daytime and nighttime/overnight hours Monday through Friday throughout the duration of the project.
Additional work includes installing drainage structures, pedestrian signals, upgrading signals and lighting, and resurfacing existing highway. The project will be constructed in three segments. Each segment will have most of the construction completed prior to moving to the next segment. Crews will work on the west side of the road initially and when that work is completed, they will shift to the east side of Cleveland Avenue/US 41. The expected project completion is late 2023.
US 41 from Bonita Beach Road to Pondella Road: Construction project: Crews will be retrofitting the lighting systems at the following intersections along US 41: Bonita Beach Road, Shopping Center Entrance, West Terry Street, South Bay Drive, Bernwood Parkway, Timberwilde Drive, Pelican Landing Parkway, Sanibel Boulevard, Constitution Boulevard, Bell Tower Road, Big Pine Way, Crystal Drive, Palm Drive, Beacon Manor Drive, South Airport Road, Boy Scout Drive, Sam’s Plaza, North Airport Road, North Key Drive, Hancock Bridge Parkway, and Pondella Road. Motorists should expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. throughout the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution as crews work alongside the roadway. Estimated project completion is fall 2023.
SR 867/McGregor Boulevard from Pine Ridge Road to Lake McGregor Drive: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews install utility poles. Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays.
SR 867/McGregor Boulevard from Colonial Boulevard to College Parkway: Maintenance contract project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews remove trees. Motorists should use caution while crews work near the roadway.
SR 82/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from SR 884/Colonial Boulevard to Wallace Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent outside eastbound lane closures while crews store debris near the roadway. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.
SR 78/Pine Island Road from SW 3rd Place to 419th SW: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent westbound lane closures while crews construct a community entrance near the roadway. Crews will be temporarily shortening the existing turn lane to perform construction activities. Motorists should use caution while traveling in this area.
SR 31/Babcock Ranch Road from Shirley Lane to Greenway Boulevard: Maintenance permit project: Motorists should expect intermittent northbound lane closures during daytime hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews construct driveways in the area. Motorists should use caution as crews work near the roadway.
State Roadways (US 41, SR 31, SR 78, SR 80, SR 82, SR 739, SR 865, and SR 867): Maintenance contract project: Crews are sweeping curb and gutter on state roadways and bridges. Motorists should expect lane closures during nighttime/overnight hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic and possible delays.
MANATEE COUNTY
I-75 at US 301 Interchange (Exit 224): Construction project: Project will widen the I-75 from SR 64 to the Manatee River, reconfigure the I-75/US 301 interchange from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration, construct new bridges will be constructed over the Manatee River for a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp, and US 301 improvements. This week, crews will work on resurfacing I-75, US 301 work, and pile driving for the construction of the new southbound on-ramp bridge over the Manatee River and Salt Marsh Bridge.
· On Wednesday, March 29, at 11 p.m. to Thursday, March 30, at 5 a.m. crews will close the SR 64 on-ramp to I-75 northbound. Motorists are advised to take SR 64 to I-75 southbound to SR 70 (Exit 217) and return to I-75 northbound; or, use local routes.
· On Thursday, March 30, at 11 p.m. to Friday, March 31, at 5 a.m. crews will close the SR 64 on-ramp to I-75 northbound. Motorists are advised to take SR 64 to I-75 southbound to SR 70 (Exit 217) and return to I-75 northbound; or, use local routes.
· Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
· Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
· Motorists should expect lane closures on US 301 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
· Motorists should expect lane closures on Tidewater Preserve Boulevard through the duration of bridge construction.
· Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and US 301 through the duration of the construction.
· Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.
Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is early 2025.
US 41 from 17th to Bayshore Road/ 26th Street, including the 23rd Street Roundabout, Palmetto: Construction: Crews have begun work in the area so please use caution in the construction zone and be alert for construction equipment in the area. Construction crews will be working at the intersection of US 41 BUS and 23rd Street to prepare for the traffic shift.
· Motorists can expect temporary daytime lane closures from north of 17th Street to just past 23rd Street throughout the duration of the project.
· Be cautious in the construction zone and reduce speed. Lanes have shifted with areas of uneven payment.
· This week crews will continue with clearing and grubbing in the area and the pedestrian trail. Approximately April 4th, crews will shift to drainage work in the area.
US 41 between 54th Avenue West and 55th Avenue West Northbound: Permit project: There will be an intermittent lane closure northbound in the outside lane, starting March 29 through April 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will be constructing a driveway entrance and sidewalk. Please watch for lane closures and allow extra travel time.
US 41 at Dona Bay Bridge: Bridge maintenance: During the second week in April after season, crews will be making bridge repairs in the area. Motorists can expect daytime temporary single lane closures. Please use caution in the area.
US 301 from 60th Avenue East to Erie Road / Old Tampa Road: Construction: Crews will work in the median, placing the base material in the areas of the road widening along US 301. Starting April 3rd, nighttime lane closures are expected to begin paving in median areas. Motorists can expect construction vehicles in and out of the Right of Way limits. The scheduled completion is in the summer of 2023.
SR 684 Cortez Road from 80th Street to 26th Street: Storm drain maintenance: Crews will be desilting and inspecting the roadway through this corridor until the end of April. Motorists can expect temporary overnight lane closures at various locations from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
SR 70 and Lorraine Road East to County Line: Maintenance: This week, crews will be working Monday, March 20, through Thursday, March 23, making maintenance repairs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists can expect temporary flagging operations.
OKEECHOBEE COUNTY
SR 70 at SE 10th Avenue: Driveway permit project: Crews are re-constructing sidewalks and modifying utilities. Watch for workers close to and in the roadway.
US 98 from north of NW 80th Avenue to US 98: Construction project: Crews will resurface the roadway on US 98 from north of NW 80th Avenue to US 98. Additional work includes shoulder treatments, roadway reconstruction at the railroad, sidewalk, traffic signals and signing and pavement markers.
· Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures on US 98 from north of NW 80th Avenue to US 98 and on SR 70 during construction.
· Beginning the week of Monday, May 22, 2023, US 98 will be closed at the railroad tracks for ten days while crews reconstruct the railroad tracks. Detours will be in place. Please follow signage and use caution in the area.

POLK COUNTY
I-4 from CR 557/Old Glade Road (Exit 48) to Osceola County: Construction project: Crews will resurface I-4, upgrade or replace sections of guardrail and shoulder, install new signing and roadway pavement markings, and install vehicle detection systems and traffic monitoring sites at various locations. This week, crews will work on resurfacing.
· Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:
o Sundays through Thursdays: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
o Fridays and Saturdays: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
· Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours:
o Sundays through Thursdays: from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
o Fridays and Saturdays: from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
· Motorists should expect ramp closures on I-4 during nighttime/overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
· Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-4 through the duration of the construction.
· Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.
Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2023.
I-4 at SR 557 Interchange (Exit 48): Construction project: This project includes reconstructing the interchange from an existing cloverleaf interchange to a diamond interchange with roundabouts at the ramps, replacing the two-lane bridge with a four-lane bridge, modifying SR 557 and I-4 within the interchange area and adding a new wildlife crossing under I-4. Traffic has been shifted onto the new SR 557 bridge. This week crews will continue working at the westbound on-ramp and eastbound off-ramp along with eastbound I-4. No lane closures are planned but use caution and watch for workers and equipment close to the road.

I-4 at CSX Railroad Bridge approximately 1200 feet west of Kathleen Road (Exit 31): Construction project: This project includes replacing the existing 250-foot bridge with two new 400-foot bridges to provide for CSX double tracking and will accommodate future expansion of I-4. There are no anticipated lane closures this week as crews work off the roadway. Expected project completion is early 2024.
US 98 at Colbert Road/Lake Hancock Road: Construction project: This project includes adding a new signal at US 98 and Colbert Road/Lake Hancock Road, improving intersection lighting, installing pedestrian signal and high-visibility crosswalks and resurfacing the intersection and striping for bike lanes at right turn lanes.
The median opening at Colbert Road on US 98 remains closed until a new signal is installed at the intersection. Crews are waiting on delivery of materials needed to run the signal. This week crews will install signal boxes with no lane closures needed. Nightly paving is expected to begin in two weeks. Expected project completion is late summer 2023.
US 92 West from Lynchburg Road to 21st Street NW: Utility project: Watch for periodic lane closures and workers close to the road as crews replace poles and install electrical equipment. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.
US 92 from Holiday Blvd to US 92 (New Tampa Highway): Maintenance contracts project: Watch for eastbound and westbound shoulder closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, March 27, through Saturday, April 1, as crews repair the shoulder of the roadway. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.
US 27 at SR 60 Interchange: Construction project: Crews will replace the bridges carrying SR 60 over US 27 and reconstruct the interchange from a partial cloverleaf design to a Single Point Urban Interchange. Other improvements include widening the roadways from four lanes to six 11-foot lanes, bicycle lanes, curb and gutter, a closed drainage system, and six-foot sidewalks. Crews will construct an urban frontage road in the southwest quadrant along SR 60 for access to local businesses. The project also includes construction of a noise wall along SR 60 from South Miami Street to west of Sharp Street, resurfacing Central Avenue from west of US 27 to Miami Street, installing signals, lighting, signage and pavement markings on US 27 and SR 60. Daytime and nighttime lane closures will occur on US 27 and SR 60 during construction.
· Motorists should expect an outside lane closure on northbound US 27 near the SR 60/US 27 intersection, while crews place drainage and pour concrete in the area.
· On Sunday, April 2, 2023, there will be a new traffic shift: US 27 northbound traffic will be shifted onto the new concrete pavement to allow construction of the permanent northbound lanes.
Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. Estimated completion is early 2025.
US 27 from Blue Heron Boulevard to Holly Hill Cutoff Road: Construction Project: This project includes resurfacing; adding a new signal at Holly Hill Cutoff Road; widening for bike lane striping at the turn lanes; improving the turn radius at southbound US 27 to westbound Sanders Road; adding high visibility crosswalks at Bates Road, Sanders Road/Davenport Boulevard, and Holly Hill Cutoff Road/North Boulevard West; installing street lighting at signalized intersections; and making minor drainage improvements.
· Expect nighttime/overnight single lane closures starting at 7 p.m. and double lane closures starting at 9 p.m. while crews repair asphalt, install signal sensors and stripe the roadway.
· Watch for daytime shoulder and turn lane closures as crews install signs.
· The intersection of North Boulevard/Holly Hill Cut-off Road at US 27 remains closed for safety reasons while crews wait on delivery of equipment to complete the new signal.
Expected project completion is early 2023.
US 27 at Park Place Boulevard: Utility project: Crews will close the northbound left turn lane on US 27 to Park Place Boulevard at night/overnight from 9 p.m. Thursday, March 23 until 5 a.m., Friday, March 24, while crews from FPU locate gas lines on Park Place Boulevard. Motorists headed to AdventHealth Heart of Florida may turn left at Massee Road to access the facility or proceed to the next median opening and U-Turn to reach Park Place Boulevard from US 27 northbound. Use caution.
US 17 from north of the CSX railroad bridge to South of Lunn Road in Fort Meade: Construction project: This project includes milling and resurfacing, widening for bike lanes at the right turn lanes, install lighting, sidewalk and guardrail. Expect daytime lane closures in either direction for paving. Use caution and be prepared to merge. Expected project completion is summer 2023.
US 17 (NW 6th Street) from Mirror Terrace NW to Lee Avenue NW: Utility project: Watch for periodic lane closures and workers close to the road as crews replace fuses. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
US 17 at NW Avenue I: Utility project: Watch for travel lane, bicycle lane and sidewalk closures with workers close to the road as crews repair an overhead wire at Avenue I. Use caution and be prepared to stop or merge.
US 17 from Spirit Lake Road to Bomber Road: Construction project: The improvements under this project include reconstructing the intersection of US 17 and Spirit Lake Road with concrete, milling and resurfacing, adding lighting, upgrading signal equipment, and relocating utilities. This week crews will be working off the roadway with no lane closures. Expected project completion is early 2024.
US 17 from SR 544 (Havendale Boulevard) to Brigham Road: Construction project: Safety improvements on this project include adding 6-foot sidewalks along both sides of US 17, installing new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHB) Signals with a raised pedestrian median at New Beginnings High School, installing or repairing curb and gutter along both sides of US 17, modifying several existing driveways, upgrading transit stops, installing lighting and upgrading signal equipment and improving drainage.
This week crews are working on lighting, sod, paving, striping and signal equipment. Expect northbound and southbound outside lane closures during the day. Use caution and be prepared to merge. Expected project completion is 2023.
US 17/92 from US 17 to South Buena Vista Drive: Utility Project: Watch for periodic lane closures and workers close to the road as crews install poles and perform miscellaneous overhead work. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
SR 655 (Recker Highway) from east of Coleman Road to CR 542 (K-Ville Avenue): Construction project: Recker Highway improvements include: milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, pedestrian enhancements, signalization and lighting. This week crews will begin paving at night, performing pipe work during the day and continue working at the Coleman Road intersection. Watch for nighttime/overnight lane closures throughout the project, daytime shoulder closures in various locations, and day and nighttime closures and traffic shifts at Coleman Road. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop. Expected project completion is late 2023.
SR 572 (Drane Field Road) at Don Emerson Drive: Construction project: This project includes constructing a single lane roundabout, drainage improvements, lighting and landscaping. Construction is managed by the City of Lakeland through a joint participation agreement with FDOT. SR 570 (Polk Parkway) from I-4 to Old Dixie Highway: Construction project: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is converting an 18-mile portion of Polk Parkway/SR 570 to electronic tolling between I-4 and Old Dixie Highway/CR 546 in Polk County. This project includes constructing three new toll gantries at the Western Mainline (milepost 8), Central Mainline (milepost 13), and SR 540 New Mainline (milepost 15.5), removing cash toll collections and replacing them with SunPass and TOLL-BY-PLATE and demolishing the existing Western and Central Mainline toll plazas. Work is anticipated to be completed in mid-2024. This is a Florida Turnpike Enterprise project. SR 570 (Polk Parkway) from US 92 to I-4: Construction project: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is widening a four-mile segment of Polk Parkway/SR 570 to four lanes, between Old Dixie Highway/CR 546 and south of Pace Road and resurfacing the existing 4-lane portions between US 92 and I-4 in Polk County. This project includes constructing a new interchange at Polk Parkway and Braddock Road, widening Braddock Road from west of Polk Parkway to Berkley Road and constructing new electronic tolling points on Polk Parkway and Braddock Road ramps. Work also consists of resurfacing the ramps at CR 546, improving signage, pavement markings, signalization lighting and drainage throughout the project and improving local roads including the realignment of the City of Auburndale Water Treatment Plant access road and the neighborhood access road south of Braddock Road, as well as minor resurfacing on Berkley Road at the Braddock Road intersection. SR 544 (Lucerne Park Road) from Winter Ridge Drive to Lucerne Loop Road: Utility project: Watch for daytime lane closures as crews replace utility poles and perform overhead work. Use caution and be prepared to merge and watch for flaggers directing traffic in two-lane sections.
SR 542 (Dundee Road) from Buckeye Loop Road to east of US 27: Construction project: This project includes widening Dundee Road from two to four lanes, constructing an enclosed drainage system, closing the Overlook Drive merge and installing a new signal at Overlook Drive, upgrading existing signal equipment, adding sidewalk, bike lanes and street lighting, and making utility improvements for the City of Winter Haven and Town of Dundee. Crews continue working on miscellaneous items to complete the project by the end of March. Motorists should watch for the following traffic impacts:
· All lanes are now open to traffic in the final pattern.
· Nighttime/overnight lane closures throughout the project for striping and work at the intersections.
· Use caution and watch for workers close to the road.
Expected project completion is spring 2023.
SR 542 (Dundee Road) from 17th Street NE to 18th Street NE: Utility project: Crews will be placing a capacitor online and making connections. Watch for daytime lane closures and be prepared to merge or stop.
SR 540 (Winter Lake Road) at the SR 570 (Polk Parkway) on ramp: Utility project: Watch for periodic lane closures and be prepared to merge as crews work at the concrete utility pad.
SR 540 West (Winter Lake Road) from Spirit Lake Road to SW King Road: Utility project: Watch for travel lane, bicycle lane and sidewalk closures with workers close to the road as crews replace thirteen utility poles and perform miscellaneous overhead work. Use caution and be prepared to merge.
SR 540 (Winter Lake Road) from Polk State College to east of Reynolds Road: Maintenance permit: Watch for lane closures and workers close to the road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through mid-May as crews begin widening for a left turn lane. Use caution and be prepared to merge.

SR 60 from SR 37 (North Church Avenue) to County Line Road: Maintenance project: Watch for daytime shoulder closures as crews grade shoulders. Use caution and watch for workers close to the road.

SR 37 from Dean Street to the Manatee County Line: Maintenance contracts project: Watch for eastbound and westbound lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, March 27, through Saturday, April 1, as crews clean storm drains. Use caution and be prepared to merge or stop.
SARASOTA
I-75 at SR 72/Clark Road (Exit 205): Construction project: Project improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lane on I-75 northbound from SR 72 to Bee Ridge Road, widen I-75 southbound from Proctor Road to SR 72, and improvements on Clark Road. This week, crews will work on the ramps, retaining walls, noise walls, and drainage work.
· Motorists should expect single lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. bound through the duration of the construction.
· Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
· Motorists should expect lane closures on SR 72 during nighttime/overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. through the duration of the construction.
· Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and SR 72 through the duration of the construction.
· Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.
Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is late 2024.
US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive: Construction project: Construction on US 41 from Beneva Road to Caribbean Drive is making median modifications, widening paved shoulders, adding turn lanes to accommodate six-foot wide bicycle lanes and adding sidewalks along the 1.37-mile section of road. Modifications will be made to existing traffic signals and crosswalks to support the bicycle lanes and new sidewalks.
· For the next month, expect lane closures both north and south bound inner lanes as crews work in the medians. Most are temporary lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless safety requires it be maintained. Consider alternate routes.
· To reduce the number of vehicle conflict points and enhance safety, median openings along the corridor will be eliminated. Proceed to the next opening and make a U-turn.
Expected completion is summer 2023.
US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point: Construction: Construction on the next phase along a 1.4-mile area of US 41 from Caribbean Drive to Stickney Point Road has begun. Work consists of implementing safety improvements along the corridor, including resurfacing, lighting and signalization, median improvements, improved drainage, shoulder reconstruction, improved sidewalks, improved bicycle lanes, and curb and gutter improvements. This week no lane closures are expected. Completion is January 2024.
US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Crews will work within the right-of-way, medians, driveways and throughout the project limits. Please use caution and watch for construction vehicles, dump trucks, semi-trucks and heavy equipment entering or exiting the work zone.
Activities Include:
· Install sod on US 41 between Gulfstream Avenue and Fruitville Road, on US 41 between Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue in the median, and on Gulfstream Avenue in median and newly graded pond area.
· Removal of temporary roadway base material on US 41 along the Marina Jacks parking lot.
· Install concrete median curb on US41 from the Fruitville Road roundabout to the Gulfstream Avenue roundabout.
· Install sidewalk on the south side of Gulfstream Avenue around the new pond.
· Install sidewalk on the north side US 41 between Main Street and the Gulfstream Avenue roundabout.
· Install light pole and pull box concrete aprons throughout the project.
Detours/Crossings:
· Phase 2B configuration is in place. Motorists on approach yield to motorists within the roundabout. Vehicles within the roundabout have priority and right of way.
· Palm Avenue, 1st Street, and 2nd Street are closed at the US 41 connection in both directions. Entering and exiting the downtown area via Cocoanut Avenue to Fruitville Road is recommended.
· Sidewalk at the northwest corner of US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue is closed. Pedestrian paths are available via US 41 Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) along Ritz Carlton Drive.
· Sidewalk on the east side of US 41 between Gulfstream Avenue and Fruitville Road is closed for reconstruction work. Pedestrians should use Cocoanut Avenue for access to downtown and to the Main Street.
· The east pedestrian crosswalk at Sunset Drive and Gulfstream Avenue is closed. The west pedestrian crosswalk is available to cross Gulfstream Avenue. Signage and pedestrian barricades are in place for guidance.
· Marina Jacks north parking lot entrance/exit on Gulfstream Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists may access the parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. No through traffic allowed through this area. Motorists may not exit the Marina Jacks parking lot via Bayfront Drive at Main Street/Marina Plaza. The south exit at Ringling Boulevard must be used to exit Marina Jacks.
Detours and lane closures will be in place during various phases of the project. During construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph on US 41 and Gulfstream Avenue.
We encourage motorists to allow extra time to travel, follow the roadway signage and messaging and avoid making unauthorized U-turns or changing lanes across solid lines between the lanes when traveling through the construction work zone.
Construction activities will take place weekdays and weekends, daytime and occasionally during nighttime hours. Expect noise from grinding asphalt, hammer drills, noise and vibration from construction equipment, backup alarms, vacuum trucks, pumps, and lighting.
Improvements being made as part of this project consist of replacing the existing signalized intersection on US 41 at Gulfstream Avenue with a roundabout, installation of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) system, raised pedestrian refuge islands, replacement of underground drainage structures, utilities, fiber optic, new LED streetlights, reconfiguration of stormwater retention ponds, sidewalks, and pedestrian walkways. Expected completion is spring 2023.
US 41 at Wellen Park Village Roundabout: Permit project: A traffic shift is in place so please pay close attention through the construction zone. The lane shift will be in place for approximately six (6) months.
US 41 Venice Bypass South of East Venice Avenue: Permit project: There will be an intermittent outside southbound lane closure on US 41Venice Bypass south of East Venice Avenue, on Thursday and Friday, April 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will be performing ground penetrating radar for upcoming construction. Please be alert for lane closures and allow extra travel time.
SR 777 River Road from US 41 to I-75: Construction project: Motorists can expect pond excavation near Venice Avenue on the northbound roadway. Embankment activities continue on the southbound roadway from Center Road to US 41; trucks will be crossing the road at various locations using intermittent flagging operations. Drainage installation will resume at various project locations and tree mulching operations are taking place along the southbound roadway from Observation Boulevard to US 41. Overall completion expected mid-2025.
SR 758 Midnight Pass from Stickney Point to Shadow Lawn Way: Construction project: Crews have begun a 1.6-mile roadway and safety improvement project on Midnight Pass Road (SR 758) from Stickney Point Road (SR 72)to Shadow Lawn Way in Sarasota County. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing, shoulder/turn lane widening, sidewalk replacement, drainage improvements, signing and pavement markings, and signal and lighting improvements. Expected completion is fall 2023.
On Midnight Pass, both traffic lanes will remain open during construction. Expect lane shifts however as lanes are adjusted so crews can work in a specific area.
Milling and resurfacing will begin after season (post Easter April 9th)
Expect noise from back-up alarms, trucks, and construction equipment both day and night.
Temporary lane closures or flagging operations could be necessary throughout the duration of the project.
SR 72 from Sarah Avenue to Mead Avenue: Storm drain maintenance: Crews will be desilting and inspecting the roadway through this corridor through the end of March. Motorists can expect temporary overnight lane closures at various locations from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
SR 72 Clark Road and Lorraine Road Roundabout: Permit construction project: Crews are finalizing the roundabout so continue to use caution in the area.
SR 72 Clark Road at Proctor Road and Dove Avenue Roundabout: Construction project: Traffic is now in the roundabout configuration and the speed through the roundabout has been reduced to 25 MPH.
· Starting Monday, April 3, westbound lanes will have overnight detours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
· Detour is only westbound, traveling via Hawkins Road to Ibis Street or Hummingbird Avenue. Should cause minimal impact on travel times.
· When needed, motorists can experience short duration flagging operations from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
· Bicyclists should use the sidewalk to navigate the roundabout.
· Travel lanes on this section of SR 72 have been reduced to 11 feet wide and to 10 feet wide on Proctor Road, so please use caution in the work zone and be aware of bicyclists.
SR 72 Clark Road from Big Slough Canal to Desoto County Line: Construction: Crews will be working the final punch list items; expect intermittent lane closures within the project boundaries with flaggers on both ends. The expected completion is in April 2023.
SR 72 Clark Road at Stickney Point from west of US 41 to Glencoe Avenue: Permit project: Crews are installing traffic signals, yet no lane closures are currently expected.
