Broadway Palm to host ‘Clean Air Christmas’ event
The Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre will host a “Clean Air Christmas” next week for the American Lung Association of Florida.
Besides spreading holiday cheer, the event will raise money for the association and spread awareness on the importance of clean air.
On Tuesday, the theater will have a silent auction with more than 100 items, a dinner and dessert buffet at 6 p.m. and finally a presentation of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” at 8 p.m.
The proceeds will benefit local people struggling with asthma, emphysema and lung cancer.
Some auction items include travel accommodations with the Sanibel Harbour Princess Dinner Cruise; celebrity collectibles, including autographs from James Earl Jones and Dolly Parton; dining certificates to the Parrot Key and Outback Steakhouse; rounds of golf to The Dunes and Stoneybrook Golf Clubs; pieces of art; and holiday shopping packs.
“It is great night, we are lucky to be in Broadway Palm since the second year they opened. We have a really good group of people,” said Kurt Goerke, regional director for the American Lung Association. “The clean air part of it is that so much of our mission revolves around clean air.”
All of the items were donated by local businesses, explained Goerke, and Broadway Palm donated 230 tickets for the American Lung Association to sell on its own and retain the proceeds.
Goerke said that even though businesses are having a tough time, many of them managed to submit donations.
“It was a tough year to go asking with the economy the way it is, so we are so appreciative with all of the businesses who gave us silent auction items,” he said. “We are also thankful for Broadway Palm who gave us tickets.”
The 450 tickets to the event will be sold by Broadway Palm and the American Lung Association, Goerke said. Corporate tables are available and start at $1,000 each.
