Identity sought of fraudulent check casher
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a woman who fraudulently cashed a $650 check last week, on an account that’s been closed for years.
Detectives say the woman in a surveillance photo brought a check made payable to “Frederick Lamar” to a local bank last week. The bank cashed the check for the woman, who then walked away with $650 in cash. A few days later, the bank on which the account was issued informed authorities that the check was from a closed business checking account, which hadn’t been open since September 2001.
Representatives from the business also stated that the person who signed the checks wasn’t even a person who existed.
Anyone with information on the identity of the woman in this photo is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for up to $1,000 in cash rewards. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org.
