Chiquita Lock may reopen by Tuesday

1 min read

The Chiquita Lock may be reopened by next Tuesday, according to Public Works Director Chuck Pavlos. Crews will pour concrete on Thursday or Friday, and if all goes well, the lock will reopen to boat traffic on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Pavlos said the city is installing new plates, hinges and concrete in an effort to get the lock operating once again.
“We are using quick-drying concrete and we hope it will be strong enough to fit the gate and lock back on its hinges and have it operation by Tuesday,” said Pavlos.
The lock broke on Friday, and crews have been working since then to determine the extent of the problem and repair the damage.
