Man accused of robbing pharmacy facing additional charges

A Cape Coral man accused of robbing a pharmacy with a knife is facing more charges after he reportedly tried to smuggle prescription drugs into the jail.
Christopher Robert McLain, 20, of 2784 N.W. Third St., was being booked at the Lee County Jail when a corrections officer conducted a pat-down search.
According to police, the deputy found 150 Oxycodone pills hidden in McLain’s crotch area. McLain was forced to turn over the pills and a book of matches.
As McLain was handing the pills to the corrections officer, he attempted to consume two of the pills, officials said. Police reported that McLain was forced to spit out the two pills, and he was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, smuggling contraband into a detention facility, trafficking in an opium derivative and destroying evidence.
McLain had initially been arrested and charged with armed robbery, along with warrants for failure to appear for petit theft and domestic violence battery. According to officials, McLain robbed the Walgreen’s Pharmacy on Del Prado Boulevard South while armed with a knife Monday morning and took narcotics.
At about 9 a.m., Cape police reported to a 911 call reporting a robbery at the Walgreen’s at 2710 Del Prado Blvd. S. A man, armed with a large knife, jumped the counter in the pharmacy department and stole medications from the safe, officials reported. The man then fled the store and was seen entering a medical center across the street.
According to police, McLain was found on the second flood of the medical facility and was taken into custody. McLain matched the description of the man who robbed the store, and he reportedly admitted to robbing the pharmacy. The knife used in the robbery was found in the Walgreen’s parking lot.
No one was injured during the incident, officials reported.
McLain remained at the Lee County Jail on no bond Tuesday afternoon, according to jail booking records. He has a court date set for June 21.
