Cameron Ford, of 2732 N.W. 3rd Terrace, died at the scene from injuries suffered in the collision, which happend shortly before 10 p.m.
Cape police and Fire units responded to the accident in the 600 block of Trafalgar at 9:52 p.m.
Ford was riding a green Mongoose bicycle with a second bicyclist and traveling eastbound in the right-hand lane near Skyline Boulevard. A black 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by Jacob York, 19, of
213 NE 9th Court, also was traveling eastbound in the inside lane approaching Ford. Ford switched lanes and drove his bicycle into the inside lane, and was riding about three feet away from the median, police said. York did not see the Mongoose in the roadway and struck the bike in the rear.
Ford was knocked onto the left side of the hood of the Explorer. He and his bicycle came to a final rest in the intersection of Southwest 6th Avenue and Trafalgar Parkway.

York suffered no injuries and declined medical treatment.
A traffic homicide investigation is continuing; however, there were no signs of impairment. Ford was wearing dark clothing and no helmet at the time of the accident. His bicycle also had no lighting or reflectors as required.
Ford’s death marks city’s seventh traffic fatality in 2010, and the third in the month of June. He is the second bicyclist killed in Cape Coral. The victims in the past four traffic fatalities all were under 21 years of age.
