One person was killed and two seriously injured when the car they were traveling in drifted off Del Prado Boulevard and crashed into a tree Friday night.
Brittany Nicole Lehman, 20, of 1717 Park Meadows Drive #3, Fort Myers, died on scene from injuries suffered in the crash. The driver of the vehicle, John Patrick Roberts, 22, of 2007 Buddy Lane, N. Fort Myers, and a second passenger, John Turner, 17, of 7587 Marx Drive, Fort Myers, sustained several serious injuries. Both were transported as trauma alerts to Lee Memorial Hospital and were listed in serious condition early Saturday morning, officials said.
Cape police and Fire Rescue units responded to the traffic crash in the 3500 block of Del Prado Boulevard North at 7:50 p.m. Roberts was traveling northbound on Del Prado at a high rate of speed when his vehicle drifted to the right and left the roadway, officials said. The vehicle skidded about 284 feet and struck the tree head on, killing Lehman, who was a passenger in the front seat. Lehman’s death marks the city’s sixth traffic fatality this year.
A traffic homicide investigation is being conducted. Alcohol was a factor in the crash, officials said.
