Red, White & Boom! set for Sunday
The stage is set and tents are being propped up for Cape Coral’s Red, White & Boom! extravaganza on Sunday.
Hosted for the first time by RE/MAX Realty Team, the Fourth of July fireworks celebration is scheduled for 4-10 p.m. on Sunday, July 4. More than 20,000 residents from across Southwest Florida are expected to attend the free event at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge.
Bob Knickman, special events director for the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, said Friday afternoon that event preparations were under way. The Cape Coral Bridge is scheduled to close at 9 a.m. on Sunday so organizers can finish setting up the event.
This year’s Red, White & Boom! celebration will feature the Universal Music Recording Artist “Trailer Choir,” the headlining performance on the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stage.
Trailer Choir is a national recording group discovered by country music singer Toby Keith in 2007. The group was first featured in Keith’s 2008 “Beer for My Horses” film and the country superstar helped them to produce their debut album. Local bands “Retro Light” at 5 p.m. and “The Mixx” at 6 p.m. are also playing, and Cat Country 107.1 is the event sponsor.
Entech Computer Services is sponsoring the Heroes and Leaders American Tribute before the fireworks show at approximately 9:30 p.m.
A VIP tent near the chamber’s downtown office will have air conditioning, food and refreshments. RE/MAX Realty Team also organized a children’s area.
A new feature of this year’s event is the “RE/MAX Realty Team Village,” where 120 individual lots, measuring 10-by-10 feet near the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge, are available for people to rent for the night. A single lot is $100 or a double lot for $170 and includes complimentary food and drinks.
Those attending Red, White & Boom! are being encouraged by the City of Cape Coral to park in public areas throughout the downtown CRA district and to avoid private businesses with “Tow Away” signs. Tow trucks will be patrolling downtown Cape Coral and may charge more than $200 to reclaim towed vehicles.
There are six public parking lots throughout the city which can be viewed at www.capecoral.net.
For more information on where to find public parking, contact the CRA at 549-5615.

The Great American Picnic is being hosted on Sunday afternoon at Cape Harbour. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the picnic will have music, contests, food and a celebration of our country’s most important holiday.
Approximately 1,000 people attend the picnic each year and pets are welcome.
Besides live performances of songs honoring the troops, Chris the DJ and “Juke Box Hero” will play music throughout the picnic.
Some of the picnic highlights will include the “Best Patriotic Pet Contest,” judged once again by Lois Thome from WINK-TV and Anita Simmons, owner of the Cape Dog Bakery.
During the picnic, Cafe Pignoli is hosting an “Apple Pie Baking Contest” and Run Agrounds is organizing a “Banana Split Eating Contest.” Winners of both will be announced at near the end of the picnic.
There are a number of other events planned. For more information, visit www.capeharbour.com.
