Weekend fund raiser to help Cape transplant patient
A fund raiser will be held this weekend to help raise money for a Cape Coral resident who needs additional money to have a transplant.
Carrie Goselin, 33, was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 10 and in August 2009 was diagnosed with renal failure. Although she has been in and out of the Cape Coral Hospital more than 30 times since August, she still lights up the room with a smile that never seems to leave her face even when in pain.
Lois Ann Murray, owner of Red Barn, said Goselin has been on the transplant list for a kidney and pancreas for some time and last week was given the opportunity at Tampa General Hospital.
“The medical costs for the transplant and after care are overwhelming,” she said.
The fund raiser will be held today, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will be set up in front of Best Title Solutions at 4705 Vincennes Blvd.
Donations for the fund raiser have been given to the Red Barn all week, Murray explained, and include items for the silent auction — a Swaroskie dog collar, 100-year-old hand-made quilt, rare Asian figurine, Virgin Mary figurine and a shell birdhouse.
Other raffle items to be sold include many home decor items.
“People have been very generous,” she said.
Murray said they are still accepting donations to be raffled off or sold by silent auction for this weekend’s fundraiser.
Donations can be dropped off at Red Barn located at 4711 Vincennes Blvd.
“We are asking for any assistance from the community that can be given to assist in life changing surgery for a person who has so many years of life in front of her,” Murray said.
Monetary donations can also be made for Goselin at Fifth Third Bank in the Caring for Carrie Account No. 7432898349.
