The Animal Refuge Center will present its annual Antique Appraisal Day on Saturday, Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fort Myers.
This is an opportunity, at no charge, to meet and greet officials from one of the largest area shelters — ARC — and learn about their shelter.
It is also an opportunity, officials said, to bring in those treasures handed down over the years or discovered at a yard sale that you are not quite sure is “trash or treasure.”
For each $20 donation to the Animal Refuge Center you can have two items appraised. Items must be able to be carried into the lobby registration area.
“This is one of my favorite events,” said ARC Treasurer Betty Hughes. “People have been known to bring in things they thought had no value, but were actually tremendous treasures. I take great pleasure in seeing those surprises.”
Peter Curran, renowned appraiser from Antiques Roadshow will be on hand to appraise items, a tradition he and fellow show stars have followed in the last several years.
Joining Curran will be antique specialist and syndicated columnist from New York City Helaine Fendleman, who attended the event last year and charmed many with her antique insight.
New this year to the Antique Appraisal Day will be a representative from Leslie Hindman Auctioneers based out of Chicago, a firm that recently opened a shop on Third Street in Naples.
“Our firm has six different departments, fine furniture and decorative arts, fine jewelry and time pieces, fine books and manuscripts, fine art, vintage couture and accessories and Asian art,” said representative Maura Ross.
Her shop got hooked up with the incredibly popular event through Curran.
Ross also noted that Hindman had a show on HGTV for eight years, called At The Auction. “Just being in that similar world they (Hindman and Curran) got to know each other.
“Bill Bridges, our generalist, will be doing the actual appraisals on that day.”
Other Roadshow stars are expected to attend.
