Cape police arrest, charge two men in separate weekend burglaries
Two men were arrested and charged with burglary over the weekend in separate incidents, according to the Cape Coral police.
At 5 a.m., Saturday, officers responded to a report of a burglary at a home at 1308 S.E. 20th St. According to officials, the homeowner heard sounds in the kitchen but dismissed them, believing it was his daughter or the friend she had sleeping over.
The man heard his dog growl and his pet bird rustling around in its cage. The homeowner looked to the master bedroom door and saw a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt looking in the room, officials reported. The suspect ran out the front door and the victim gave chase while his wife called 911.
Officers set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, and a police helicopter and K-9 units also responded. The aviation unit spotted a male hiding behind a fence a few blocks from the victim’s home. A K-9 unit tracked to the man, according to officials.
Officers took the man, identified as Alfonso Galindo, 24, of 2910 Country Club Blvd., into custody. After being placed into a patrol vehicle, Galindo allegedly threatened to kill the officers and their families, claiming that all of their information was available on the Internet.
Galindo was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, resisting arrest without violence and corruption by threat of a public official.
At 11:25 p.m., Sunday, officers were dispatched to a burglary at a home at 1313 S.E. 29th St. A man had broken into a home and was seen running from the area. Police established a perimeter around the area, and a citizen then called and advised that a man was seen running along a canal bank a block away.
Officers converged on the man and took him into custody. He was identified as Colin Faiella, 17, of 2905 S.E. 10th Place. Faiella told police that he had interrupted a burglary at the home when the homeowner arrived and mistook him for one of the burglars. He said the victim attacked him so he ran.
The homeowner positively identified Faiella as the lone burglar inside of her home, according to officials. She stated that she arrived home and was confronted by a neighbor, who noticed a strange bicycle on the side of her home.
As the victim entered the home, she discovered Faiella in the kitchen, officials reported. She grabbed him in an effort to detain him until police arrived, but Faiella was able to break away and run from the residence.
Officers reportedly located a backpack along the path Faiella took as he ran from the victim’s home. Inside of the backpack police found coins, jewelry and computer equipment that was reportedly taken from the victim’s home.
Faiella changed his story and later told detectives that he did break into the home, according to officials. He was charged with burglary of a dwelling, grand theft and criminal mischief.
