Notable Quartet delivers more singing Valentines Monday
Many men and women were surprised Monday when The Notable Quartet, members of the Cape Chorale, sang two love songs, along with providing them with a single red rose, a box of chocolates and a card for Valentines Day at home, or where they work.
Roberta Willford, who was going about her day at the Publix bakery on the corner of Pine Island Road and Burnt Store Road in Cape Coral, was approached by four men dressed in tuxedos wearing red bow ties Monday afternoon stopping her in her tracks as they told her they were delivering her with a singing Valentine.
“They shocked me,” she said smiling about the “absolutely huge” surprise she received.
Dave Barton, Mike Suermondt, Bob Dutsman and Barry Bowers — members of the Notable Quartet, gathered around Willford in the bakery and began singing, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” followed by “Heart of My Heart,” as a group of shoppers stopped and listened to the love songs while snapping pictures.
After the group sang the first song, Willford opened her card, which was signed by “Baby,” her dog. Although she believed the present was from her husband, Willford, she said it could also be from one of her friends.
“My husband has never done anything like this,” she said. “That’s why I am suspicious.”
Willford had a smile on her face as she was entertained by her singing Valentine surprise.
“I loved the songs,” she said. “They are terrific. I really enjoyed it.”
Barton said the group surprised 14 people from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday and four people on both Saturday and Sunday. He said they went to schools, surgical centers, real estate offices and homes to provide the surprise.
“We try to do it on week days to surprise them at work,” Barton said.
Dutsman said he enjoys delivering the singing Valentines because it “is bringing happiness to people we are singing to.”
The Cape Chorale has offered a singing Valentine for the past 10 or 11 years for the community. The 40-member chorus splits into various quartets to provide the Valentine surprise for individuals on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Those who would like to hear more music from the Cape Chorale can attend the group’s next show at Island Coast High School on March 19, at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Individuals are encouraged to call (239) 574-7861 to purchase their tickets for $17.
The Happiness Emporium, an international quartet champion, will also perform barbershop song favorites and inspirational Gospel songs at the concert.
