Cape Coral fire units working variety of incidents
The Cape Coral Fire Department responded to a variety of incidents today including calls that involved evacuations, a vehicle fire and a wildland fire.
At about 1:17 p.m., fire crews responded to a report of a propane gas leak at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Del Prado Boulevard. A contractor working in the area hit the gas line, which necessitated the evacuation of St. Andrew School and the Church Hall.
Cape firefighters prevented an explosion at the exposed area by deploying hose lines to divert the gas line until the gas company could arrive to stop the leak and make repairs. By 2:01 p.m., the leak was repaired and the “all clear” sign was given.
At 5:15 p.m., Cape Fire Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a vehicle on fire at the Fucillo Kia Dealership on Pine Island Road. Fire crews arrived to find an SUV fully involved near other vehicles. Firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire by 5:24 p.m.. The fire spawned a small brush fire as well, and one other vehicle received minor paint damage from the heat of the fire. There were no injuries.
Cape Fire Department personnel also responded to a mutual aid call from Charlotte County to assist with a wildland fire. In addition, Fire/Rescue teams handled numerous rescue/medical calls, officials said.
