Sheriff”s Office: North Fort Myers teen found with weapons on campus

2 min read

A North Fort Myers teen was arrested Monday after officials say they found numerous weapons in his car parked on campus at Riverdale High school.
Michael Boyko, 17, of 20300 Meadow Lane Rd., was charged with five counts of possession of firearm on school property; two counts of possession of weapon on school property; one count possession of burglary tools; five counts of possession of firearm by a minor and one count possession of alcoholic beverages by a minor, according to a prepared statement issued by the Lee County Sheriff’s office.
Officials say they found three shotguns, a loaded semi-automatic handgun, a loaded revolver, two large bayonet style knives and several boxes of ammunition in his car.
The discovery came after a teacher received a tip that over the weekend a student was in possession of a firearm while driving on campus during a weekend event at the school. The witnesses were unable to identify the student, but provided a partial tag number.
The information eventually pointed to Boyko, officials said. At approximately 9 a.m. school administrators and the school resource officer met with Boyko and asked if he had anything at school that he should not have.
Boyko answered “Yes, a lot” and indicated that he had weapons in his vehicle, according to officials. School administrators and the SRO escorted Boyko to his vehicle. An administrator then looked inside as the SRO stood by.
The administrator located a knife and firearm in the back seat and a knife and a stun gun device in the door. In addition, two magazines with ammunition were on the passenger seat.
At Boyko’s explanation of the location of other weapons the administrator opened the trunk of the vehicle to find two additional long guns and two duffle bags, officials said. In one of the bags were boxes of ammunition, two loaded handguns, several knives, a ski mask, gloves and a large set of bolt cutters. A half bottle of liquid in a vodka bottle and a case of beer were also discovered.
Due to the large number of guns and ammunition in the car, a bomb dog was brought in to walk the parking lot. No other threats were located.
Boyko was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing.
