Christ Lutheran Church will hold a worship service Sunday, along with a celebration brunch in honor of its 50th anniversary.
Christ Lutheran Church Pastor Gary LaCroix said although Saturday will be their 50th anniversary for signing the charter, the history of the church dates back to the early 1960s.
The first worship service was held in March 1960. LaCroix said the church was the first to provide services in Cape Coral, which took place on the land where the Yacht Club is located.
Pastor Everett Bunck, who was ordained on Dec. 15, 1945, began the ministry in 1961, with June 4 as the first day of organization.
Before the ground breaking ceremony took place in 1964 for the first sanctuary and administrative building, the worship services were held at the Nautilus Inn and the storefront of Webb’s Clothing.
The administrative building still stands today.
The following cornerstone took place in 1976 when the present Christ Lutheran Church sanctuary had its ground breaking ceremony. In 1977, LaCroix said the sanctuary was used for the first time.
The third cornerstone occurred in 1992 when the fellowship hall was built.
One worship service will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration brunch at 11:30 a.m.
“God has been present with us through all of our journey,” LaCroix said.
Christ Lutheran Church is at 2911 Del Prado Blvd.
