Free foreclosure seminar set for June 28
Homeowners facing foreclosure will have an opportunity to receive some free advice later this month about what other options may be available than simply walking away.
A seminar scheduled for June 28 at the Cape Coral Hampton Inn and Suites is aimed at providing some of those options, according Bonnie Overcash, from Sandbill Realty.
Overcash said speakers from Well Fargo, North American Short Sale Assistance and Sandbill Realty will be on hand to offer advice. A Certified Public Accountant also will be on available to offer advice, she said.
“The more people I talked to the more I realized they don’t know they have options available,” Overcash said. “A lot of people feel they should just throw their hands up and walk away and that’s the worst thing they could do.”
Lenders are being more proactive by trying to provide help to homeowners who are in trouble, she said, offering better incentives for short sales as an option.
“Banks are being more careful now,” she said. “The quicker we can get through this short sale process the quicker we can recover and banks are realizing it’s better to be proactive.”
Sandbill Realty has hosted smaller versions of the seminar at its office but decided it would be advantageous to offer a seminar that would to open to more people.
Despite being a free seminar at the Hampton Inn, space is limited, according to Overcash, and people are required to register beforehand.
About 60 people is the limit for the seminar, she said.
Although Sandbill’s office is located in Fort Myers, Overcash said that many of those who were attending their smaller seminars were from Cape Coral.
“A lot of the people who reached out for help were from Cape Coral so it made sense to have it on the other side of the river,” she said.
People can register online at feelingtrapped.eventbrite.com, where they will also be able to print out a ticket.
