Cape police: 2 men commit burglaries
Two Cape Coral men are accused of burglarizing a home and pawning the stolen items, and could be involved with several other area burglaries.
Jeffrey Todd Knavel, 29, and Christopher Adam Volk, 28, both of 3101 S.E. 16th Place, were arrested and charged Tuesday. Booked into the Lee County Jail, both remained in custody Wednesday on bond, according to jail records.
On July 12, Cape detectives responded to a pawn shop in the 2900 block of Del Prado Boulevard. A woman had identified jewelry in a display case at the shop that had reportedly been stolen from her residence during a burglary.
According to police, the woman had been checking various pawn shops and second-hand dealer stores for her property. Electronics had also been taken from the woman’s home during the burglary.
A check of the transactions at the pawn shop reportedly revealed that Knavel had sold the victim’s camera and lens to the business.
On Tuesday, detectives set up surveillance at Knavel’s residence. When he and Volk arrived, police took Knavel into custody and began to question Volk.
According to police, both men admitted to committing multiple burglaries in the area over the past several months. Both were transported to the jail.
Knavel was charged with three counts of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling unarmed no assault battery and two counts of dealing in stolen property.
He was also charged with damage property criminal mischief $200 and under, larceny grand theft of dwelling property $100 to under $300, larceny grand theft $5,000 or more but less than $10,000, larceny grand theft $300 to less than $5,000 and fraud false owner information pawned items less than $300.
Volk was charged with two counts of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling unarmed no assault battery and one count each of larceny grand theft $300 to less than $5,000 and larceny grand theft $5,000 or more but less than $10,000.
Knavel has a $55,500 bond, and Volk has a $30,000 bond.
Both men have court appearances scheduled Aug. 22.
Cape detectives are continuing to interview the two about the other alleged burglaries.
