Cape police take custody of deceased man’s vehicle
Cape Coral Police detectives have taken custody of James Arthur’s 2009 Volvo. A nationwide BOLO was issued for the vehicle Thursday. Oct. 27, when residents James Arthur and Garrett Kern first went missing.
Arthur and Kern both resided at 3519 S.W. 29th Ave., in Cape Coral.
Friday afternoon, Nov. 4, Cape Coral Police detectives were contacted by the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office in Crisp County, Ga. Deputies there reportedly located the car in the parking lot of a dollar store.
Cape detectives then drove to Crisp County and took custody of the vehicle. It was loaded onto a flatbed truck and driven back to Cape Coral and stored at the police department’s secure facility.
A search warrant was obtained for the car, and this afternoon detectives and forensic personnel began processing the vehicle for evidence.
The Lee County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release a manner of death in this case.
Kern remains in Illinois pending extradition to Florida. He was arrested in Illinois on a VOP warrant for narcotics charges. Once that issue is resolved, Kern will be brought back to Florida for the Grand Theft Auto arrest warrant, Cape officials indicated.
According to Cape police, Kern remains a person of interest in the disappearance of Arthur, whose body was discovered Thursday, Nov. 3, in northwest Cape Coral.
CCPD detectives and forensic personnel continue to work on this investigation.
