‘Taste of North Fort Myers: NFM Chamber to host annual food fest

2 min read

The North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce is asking everyone in the area to have their tastebuds in overdrive on Sunday.

That’s when the second annual Taste of North Fort Myers, sponsored by Edible Arrangements, comes to the Shell Factory, and it promises to be even bigger this year.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3, with children 5 and under free.

More than a dozen local restaurants will be on hand to offer attendees small samples of their finest fare, all expected to be priced under $5, as well as coupons and discounts if they decide to come to their establishment.

“It looks like it’s going to be a big deal again, and we’re delighted,” said Chris Jackson, executive director of the chamber. “The focus is going to be on the food. That’s the big draw. We just hope for good weather.”

People will also get to vote for their favorites as a way for the restaurants to claim bragging rights for People’s Choice Overall and Sweet Treat.”

Among the restaurants will be Captain Fishbone’s, Dorado’s Dockside Seafood, Forehouse Sports Grill, Heron’s Glen, Lenny C’s Pizza, Jersey’s Sports Cafe, Smokey’s BBQ, Rosie’s Pizza, D-Rock’s Frozen Yogurt and Mr. Bacon.

There will also be raffles and giveaways, free games and activities for the kids, a petting zoo, the Huffmaster School of Music will have musical presentations throughout the day, all the attractions at the Shell Factory will be open, and the Calendar Girls will present its tribute to “Peace, Love and Puppies.”

Mike Glean will provide the music, and Gator Country and BOB-FM will also be on hand for live broadcasts. The Chamber will provide the lemonade.

This year, Jackson said there will be no food tickets, since last year the lines for tickets bogged things down and they have a better layout this time around.

Jackson also said there will be about a dozen more businesses at the business expo, providing an opportunity for guests to see the business up close and personal.

“It’s an easy way for the family to come out and enjoy the day. We’re asking our vendors to keep it inexpensive. This is not a place to come eat a 12-course meal,” Jackson said. “Show them what you have so everyone can enjoy it.”

A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Suncoast Community Center.
