Cape Coral businesses feted at ‘Best of’ luncheon
More than 100 businesses were recognized Thursday at the “Best of Cape Coral” awards luncheon hosted by the Cape Coral Breeze.
The awards program held at the Italian- American Club recognized businesses in more than 130 categories – from nightclubs and restaurants, to hamburgers and wings, to dry cleaners and heating and air conditioning services – based on ballots printed in The Breeze and submitted by readers.
“You show a commitment to your customers and the community. Thank you for your support of The Breeze,” Publisher Scott Blonde said to those in attendance.
Among this year’s big winners was Anthony’s on the Boulevard, which took home five awards, including best restaurant.
“It’s fantastic. I attribute it to my employees and the community. I try to give them what they want and I listen to them,” said owner Anthony Serrago. “To be surrounded by all these people who work hard and put their best foot forward is what it’s all about.”
Karma and Coconuts, which came into business six months ago, captured three awards, including one for best boutique, which thrilled owner Denise Ahlstrom.
“I’m amazed. We’re a giftshop boutique that has 45 local artists from Cape Coral and Fort Myers, and everything is handmade,” Ahlstrom said. “I’m surrounded by great people.”
Also pleased was multi-category winner Merrick Seafood (Best Seafood Market) and Fish Tale Grill by Merrick Seafood (Best Seafood Restaurant.)
“I am so happy to work for them. We have the best and freshest seafood,” said Coral Pratillo of Merrick Seafood and Fish Tale Grill. “Since we expanded, we’re open for lunch and dinner, and it’s turned out fabulous.
During the ceremony, longtime Cape Coral businessman Bennett Agranove, of Carriage Class Cleaners, took the microphone and spoke to the winners.
“You are the showcase for Lee County and Cape Coral,” he said.
“It’s wonderful that we have this opportunity to thank The Breeze for making this a success. You represent the majority of businesses in Cape Coral. You represent the best,” Agranove said.
Carriage Class Cleaners was a winner in the Best Dry Cleaner Category, along with Cape Cleaners.
