Lee County shelter seeking foster homes for kittens and other feline assistance
FORT MYERS – Lee County Domestic Animal Services is seeking community support to help with the overpopulation of kittens. The shelter is in need of adopters and individuals to foster kittens until they are ready for adoption. Currently Animal Services has 200 cats and kittens at the shelter and in foster care. Consequently, supplies of canned cat food are critically low. Donations of Purina Kitten Chow and any brand of pt variety canned cat food are requested.
Animal Services’ current adoption promotion for the month of July features kittens for $35 and cats 6 months and older for $8. Cats and kittens are always two-for-one adoption fee and will apply during the promotion as well. The adoption fee will still include the same veterinary services such as spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment, feline aids and leukemia test, Lee County license if 3 months or older, microchip ID, 10-day health guarantee and more.
Anyone interested in becoming a foster parent may download an application at www.leelostpets.com. Fosters are provided with food for the cats or kittens and all veterinary care is provided through Animal Services’ Veterinary Clinic.
Donations may be brought to the shelter at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, next to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office off Six Mile Cypress Parkway or dropped off at participating Publix locations. Look for the blue bin in the stores.
The adoption center is open Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All adoptable animals may be viewed online at www.leelostpets.com. Information is updated hourly. Adoption applications may also be submitted online.
