Sun Splash Family Waterpark to celebrate Christmas in July
Cape Coral has an unique chance to enjoy the holidays during the summer starting Friday.
The first ever Christmas in July celebration will kick off at Sun Splash Family Waterpark to continue through July 31. In addition, the monthly “Aqua Theatre Night” is set from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday.
“The park’s going to be decorated, and there’ll be holiday music,” Michelle Dean, marketing coordinator for the Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department, said.
Santa will visit the park throughout the week to take pictures and hand out candy canes.
“We’ll be hosting games, such as fund the Santa and win a prize,” she said.
“Festive games and things that tie in with the theme,” Dean added.
One of the holiday activities for Tuesday will consist of decorating sugar cookies.
Visitors have a chance to register to win prizes, and speciality food items will be available.
“Festive holiday food, like peppermint ice cream, red and green shakes and snow cones,” she said.
Two gift baskets will be raffled off each day during the celebration; there is no cost to register.
“We don’t ever get to celebrate the actual holiday season at Sun Splash due to the timing,” Dean said. “We’re hoping it just gives it a fun little twist other than your typical summer day at Sun Splash.”
“It’s a little bit different way to experience the park,” she added.
Also Friday, the movie “Cloud 9” will be played on a giant inflatable movie screen at dusk.
“It’s just an opportunity for families to come out and enjoy the park during the evening hours at the discounted rate,” Dean said. “All the attractions at the park will be open.”
The discounted admission prices for Aqua Theatre Night are $8 for Cape residents, $10 for non-residents and $5 for same-day park guests. Season pass holders to the park are admitted free.
“It’s a great opportunity for family bonding time,” she said.
Prizes will be given away during the event.
Last month, Sun Splash held a Facebook contest asking the public to name its new mascots – a blue whale and a pink whale. The winning names selected were Reef and Coral.
“They will be coming out for Aqua Theatre Night,” Dean said.
“As long as the weather’s nice, we should get a good crowd,” she added.
Last month, the event was rained out. The featured movie, “Frozen,” was rescheduled to Aug. 15.
