Utilities customers near Del Prado may experience discolored water due to line break
City water customers located in the vicinity of Del Prado Boulevard south of Viscaya Parkway may experience some discoloration in the water supply due to a 12-inch transmission main break that occurred late last night, according to a release issued this afternoon by the city of Cape Coral. The transmission line carries water north and south along Del Prado. The break occurred near Viscaya Parkway. The discoloration may impact a large area east and west of Del Prado Boulevard, and south of Viscaya Parkway to SE 32nd Street. (see attached map)
The discoloration is a result of small amounts of iron in local pipes and may last a day or two, the city said. While the water is still safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron can stain light-colored items in the laundry, especially when bleach is used. Customers around this location should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter-colored laundry during this period of work.
If you experience discolored water, you may prefer to run the water for several minutes or as needed to clear your house line.
