Thanksgiving brings need for turkeys

1 min read

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and the Harry Chapin Food Bank needs to provide about 12,000 turkeys and chickens for families. The community can help by donating frozen holiday birds or making a financial contribution.

It costs the food bank about $12 to purchase and distribute each holiday bird through its network of partner agencies.

You can drop off frozen turkeys or chickens at the food bank’s main warehouse, located at 3760 Fowler St. Fort Myers, or at the Naples warehouse, 2221 Corporation Blvd. Financial donations can also be mailed to either location or by donating online at www.harrychapinfoodbank.org .

The Harry Chapin Food Bank is an affiliate of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network. The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and distributes quality food to families in need through a network of 150 nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties.

These partner agencies operate food pantries, soup kitchens and other feeding programs that serve 30,000 Southwest Floridians each month.

The food bank distributes more than 1 million pounds of food every month to its partner agencies.
