2 min read

A Cape Coral teen was hospitalized Monday after his bike collided with a vehicle.

According to the Cape police, Bradley S. Williams, 13, was headed south on Burnt Store Road North on a BMX-style bicycle. Behind him, a Chevrolet Impala was also traveling south.

At 1:57 p.m., the driver of the Chevrolet attempted to pass Williams in the 900 block. As the vehicle was passing the bicycle, Williams reportedly swerved suddenly into the middle of the road and his left pedal struck the right side of the Chevrolet. Due to the collision, Williams was ejected from the bike.

The teen struck the hood and windshield of the Chevrolet, police reported. He then fell and struck the road, coming to a rest in the southbound lane. The bicycle also struck the road and came to a stop.

The driver of the Chevrolet, David Negron Jr., 51, of Lexington, S.C., stopped and made a U-turn after the collision. He parked on the side of the road, near where Williams had come to stop.

According to police, Lee County EMS treated the teen on site for serious bodily injuries, then he was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. Williams was later airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.

Negron was not injured during the accident.

As of Tuesday, Williams was reportedly listed in critical condition.

Officials at Tampa General Hospital did not have the teen in their directory on Tuesday. They stated that this means he is not at the hospital or his family requested he be removed from the directory.

The crash was not alcohol or drug related, police reported.

The case is pending further investigation.
