Pedestrian struck by vehicle reportedly improving
A pedestrian is improving at a hospital after being hit by a vehicle last month in Cape Coral.
Ronald James Sears, 42, of 1742 Skyview Drive, Fort Myers, was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken Nov. 24 following the accident on Diplomat Parkway.
At about 1:13 a.m., Sears was walking east on Diplomat, according to the Cape police. In the 2200 block, the front right of a Jeep SUV that was westbound in the outside lane struck Sears head on. The driver, Danielle Rene Tuohey, 27, of 1810 N.E. 16th Place, then fled the scene without stopping.
Sears sustained life-threatening injuries and was trauma-alerted to the hospital.
Tuohey was not injured in the crash.
Police reported that approximately an hour after the accident, Tuohey returned to the scene in the Jeep. She provided officers with a statement, and the vehicle was seized for evidence.
The crash is not alcohol or drug related, according to officials.
Due to the nature of the accident, criminal charges are pending completion of an investigation.
The crash closed down both westbound lanes of Diplomat for about two hours.
