A Cape Coral motorcyclist was found dead Sunday after he crashed and struck a tree.

Police officials reported that Scott W. Ogden, 42, of 1518 S.E. 11th Ave., was traveling westbound on Southeast 16th Place on a Suzuki GSX 650F at a high rate of speed. In the 1000 block, he attempted to slow down and brake for a curve, leaving skid marks. Ogden was unable to stop and left the roadway.

Ogden entered the property of a residence at 1002 S.E. 16th St., according to police. He and the motorcycle slid on their sides across the property until they struck a tree in the front yard.

Ogden came to a final rest in front of the home; the motorcycle came to a stop on the side of it.

Police officials reported that there were no independent witnesses to the accident. However, the homeowner and a neighbor remembered hearing a loud noise in the middle of the night.

The homeowner exited his residence at about 8:36 a.m. and discovered Ogden and the motorcycle.

Ogden was pronounced dead on scene.

According to police, it does not appear any other vehicle made contact with the motorcycle.

Investigators are awaiting the autopsy results for possible impairment.

Ogden was reportedly traveling 70 mph in a 30 mph zone at the time of the crash.
