Entrants sought for new fundraising car show
The 4 The Kids Foundation is signing up entrants for its first-ever car show fundraiser.
The Inaugural Corbit Beasey Memorial Car Show will be held Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hope United Methodist Church. The cost is $15 per vehicle to pre-register or $20 the day of the show.
Admission to the event will be free for the general public.
Woody Woodward, secretary for the 4 The Kids Foundation, explained that they came up with the fundraiser after a relative who was a car show enthusiast – Corbit Beasey – passed away.
“Since he died from cancer, and we support the fight against pediatric cancer, we thought we would honor him and do a car show,” he said.
The 4 The Kids Foundation supports the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida by collecting children’s adhesive bandages, children’s pajamas, toys, games and more for the patients. It supplies the hospital’s treasure chest, delivers presents at Christmas and hosts the Spring Bling.
Proceeds from the car show will go toward the foundation’s efforts.
“One hundred percent of the funds we raise will go to support the pediatric oncology patients at the Golisano Children’s Hospital, right here in our community,” Woodward said.
As of Thursday, only a few vehicles had signed up for the show.
“We’re looking for cars,” he said. “We need cars.”
The show will feature 15 different categories, with first and second place trophies awarded in each. Some of the categories include all years of the GM, Chrysler and Ford products, antiques, exotics and kit cars. Also broken down by years will be two classes of Mustangs and three classes of Corvettes.
“Each class will have two trophies awarded,” Woodward said.
A panel of three amateur car enthusiasts will judge the vehicles in six categories. Some of the criteria that will be judged includes finish, interior, tires and wheels, paint quality and chrome work.
Judging will take place between 1 and 3 p.m.
Along with the show, there will be vendors on site and music.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Attendees can also try their luck at a raffle or a 50/50 drawing. The grand prize for the raffle is a large flat screen TV; the winner does not have to be present to win. The drawing will be held at 2:30 p.m.
“We also have a lot of gift certificates to local restaurants,” he said.
Tickets for the 50/50 will be an arm’s length for $15.
Woodward said the foundation’s goal is sign up between 75 and 100 vehicles.
“We’d like a couple thousand dollars net on the thing,” he said. “We would consider that to be a great success for the first year.”
Donated boxes of child-themed adhesive bandages will be collected.
Organizers encouraged the public to stop.
“It’s a fundraiser for a local charity, supporting local people,” Woodward said.
To pre-register a vehicle for the Inaugural Corbit Beasey Memorial Car Show, request a registration form by emailing cat.tradin@gmail.com. Pre-registration forms must be received by Jan. 31.
“All entrants will receive a dash plaque and a bag of goodies,” he said.
