Froggy’s to hold benefit for Sunrise Community of Cape Coral

2 min read

Froggy’s will hold a benefit for people with cerebral palsy Sunday, Feb. 22, from 12-6 p.m. The proceeds will benefit Sunrise Com-munity, a United Cerebral Palsy facility in Cape Coral.

Froggy’s is a restaurant and bar located on Pine Island.

“We help intellectually challenged individuals with cerebral palsy,” Lisa Thrall, residential program director, said. “Sunrise has facilities in Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida. The mission statement of Sunrise Community is ‘To provide people with disabilities the assistance and support necessary to enable them to live valued lives in the community.’

“We have people with all levels of functionality,” Thrall said. “We have residential group homes to provide housing. We also provide clothing, learning activities, and of course help with basic daily functions.”

“This fund-raiser will help the people at Sunrise Communities,” Froggy’s owner Romana Gavrinev said. “Music and sound will be provided by Lizzie True and the Liars. Additional bands include Brother Love 2, Rex Bongo and the Sophisticated Hippies and Dogfish. The funds we raise will be used to fund field trips, clothing and every day needs that state funds do not cover. We are planning silent auctions, raffles, dinner tickets, 50/50 and there isn’t any admission charge.

“I hope everyone on Pine Island comes out in support of this great organization. There will be plenty of food, prizes and an auction to raise the most money we can,” Gavrinev said.

“A gift to Sunrise Community represents much more than just a financial windfall for the organization,” Executive Director Leslie Steiner said. “It represents the fact that we are, as our name suggests, a community. A community of people who give our resources to assure that other people, people with disabilities, have every opportunity to live valued lives in our community.”

Froggy’s is at 3620 Stringfellow Road in St. James City. For additional information, call 239-283-3773.
