A Cape Coral pedestrian was hospitalized Wednesday after he was struck by a vehicle.

Jason Ray Degraaf, 40, was listed in critical condition on Thursday at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported following the accident on Andalusia Boulevard, according to officials.

The Cape Coral Police Department reported that Robert Neal Rodriguez, 31, of the Cape, was driving southbound on Andalusia in the outside lane in a Chevrolet Impala. At 9:11 p.m., Rodriguez observed Degraaf “run” eastbound across the road and into the path of his car in the 800 block. The Impala struck Degraaf.

According to officials, Degraaf was forced onto the car and windshield area. After the impact, the Impala came to a stop in a vacant lot. Degraaf was ejected off the car and came to a rest in a lot.

Degraaf sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital via an ambulance.

Rodriguez was not injured, nor were his two passengers – a juvenile boy and girl.

During the investigation, police determined that Rodriguez had a suspended driver’s license.

He did not show signs of impairment, officials reported. It was unknown if Degraaf was impaired.

The accident is pending further investigation, according to police.
