Cape Coral man injured in weekend crash

A weekend crash ended with one driver taken to the hospital and another sent to jail.

At about 9:24 p.m. Saturday, Ryan C. Knaby, 33, of Fort Myers, was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound on Cape Coral Parkway in the outside lane. As Knaby entered the intersection at Skyline Boulevard, a westbound Ford Explorer SUV tried to turn south onto Skyline, police reported.

The Explorer turned in front of the Camry, and the front of the Camry hit the passenger’s side of Explorer. Both vehicles rotated and came to rest in the intersection facing opposite directions.

According to police, Knaby was not wearing a seatbelt and was forced into the steering wheel and windshield. He had serious bodily injuries and was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Officials reported on Tuesday that Knaby was listed in good condition at the hospital.

The driver of the Explorer, Mark Edward Moore, 37, of 830 S.W. 54th Lane, reportedly had minor injuries as a results of the accident. However, he refused any medical attention on scene.

During the investigation, Moore also refused sobriety tests and refused a breath test, according to police. A blood drawn search warrant was obtained, and a mandatory blood draw completed.

Moore was taken to the Lee County Jail and charged with DUI unlawful blood alcohol, DUI unlawful blood alcohol damage property and DUI unlawful blood alcohol serious bodily injury to another.

As of Tuesday, he had been released on $8,000 bond.

Moore has a court appearance on April 6.

Police reported that the case is pending further criminal investigation.
