Search for missing man ends with discovery of body
A body discovered in north Cape Coral has been identified as that of a 75-year-old man who had been reported missing Wednesday.
The body has been identified as David John Bovard, who has been the subject of an intense search by the Cape Coral Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Next of kin has been notified.
The body was discovered Thursday at approximately 4:54 P.M., in the area of Northeast 24th Ave. and Northeast 28th St. Cape Coral Police officers patrolling in the area located the body and, due to the location, Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives were notified and assumed the investigation.
Detectives have stated that the community is not in danger and that they are not looking for any suspects.
Bovard had left his residence on foot near the 2700 block of Northeast 20 Cort Wednesday around 9 a.m. and did not return.
Officials say he had a history of Parkinsons, atrial fibrillation, and dementia.
Cape Coral Police and Fire units were in the area much of Thursday, continuing the search. The search included the use of boats, ATVs, and aviation, according to Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department spokesperson.
