A Cape Coral man has died at the hospital after his motorcycle recently collided with an SUV.

Cape police officials were notified on Saturday that Robert Philip LeBlanc, 50, died at Lee Memorial Hospital from the injuries that he sustained on April 4 in the accident on Cape Coral Parkway East.

An autopsy will be completed and the investigation is ongoing, officials added at the time.

Police reported that LeBlanc, of 538 S.W. Third St., was driving a Harley-Davidson east in the middle lane, approaching the intersection of Southeast Sixth Avenue. At 11:57 p.m., a Ford Expedition headed west on the parkway attempted to make a U-turn at Sixth Avenue and travel east.

The SUV, being driven by Jorge Juan Ferrer, 64, of 4806 E. Triton Court, Apt. 1, reportedly turned in front of LeBlanc. As a result, the front of the motorcycle hit the Ford Expedition’s right rear side.

The SUV, LeBlanc and the motorcycle came to rest in the outside and middle eastbound lanes.

Prior to the impact, the motorcycle left approximately 158 of skidmarks, according to police.

LeBlanc was reportedly wearing a half-shell helmet at the time. He hit his head and face against the side of the Ford Expedition and was trauma-alerted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Ferrer did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

Police reported that Ferrer said he stopped in the south turn lane at Sixth Avenue while he had a solid green light. He advised that he saw a car far down the road, but he did not see any other vehicles.

Drugs and drug paraphernalia were reportedly found in the saddlebags of the motorcycle.

Paraphernalia was also located on LeBlanc at the hospital, according to police.
