Man hurt in condo explosion

A man was critically injured in an explosion that blew the doors and windows out of a Cape Coral condominium.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at 3956 Pomodora Circle, Isles of Porto Vista.

Responding police and Cape Coral Fire Department units found a the man sitting outside on the ground with life threatening injuries, consistent with what might be sustained in an explosion, officials said.

The apartment had broken windows, doors blown off, and smoke was coming from the apartment.

Rescue workers transported the victim to a local hospital as a Trauma Alert.

No one else was found during a search inside the apartment.

Lee County Bomb Squad, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and FDLE all responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

Affected residents were expected to be able to return home in the next several hours. Red Cross stoodyby to provide temporary shelter to those who might not be able to return home for the evening.

The investigation was expected to extend well into Saturday.
