‘Best of the Cape’ winners honored at luncheon
Businesses deemed the best in their respective categories by customers and readers of the Cape Coral Breeze were feted at the Cape Coral Yacht Club Thursday at the annual Best of Cape Coral awards luncheon, sponsored by The Breeze Newspapers and catered by Bubba’s Roadhouse & Saloon.
“These businesses work very hard to earn this award every year. They cater to their customers and that’s how they get here,” Breeze Publisher Scott Blonde said. “This is a very prestigious award and it points to their commitment to the community and customers.”
More than 120 awards were handed out and they ran the gamut from best restaurant in various categories to retail stores to specialities such as best gelato.
While there were a few first timers, others have been named the best for years. Dr. Mel Youngs has been named best chiropractor 14 times including this year, where she also added best massage therapy.
“We’re fortunate that Cape Coral voted for us. We have excellence in health care and everything is patient driven,” Youngs said. “We treat them the way we want to be treated and we accept this honor proudly and continue to strive to earn their business.”
There were a few who took some several awards such as NASTAR roofing, which took home three awards in roofing, soffits and gutters and air conditioning.
“We worked very hard for the award and I don’t think we would be where we are without our friends and family,” said Savannah Skaggs, who represented the company. “We can do anything if we put our minds to it.”
A big winner was The Dek Bar, which won six awards for best bar, wings, live music venue, Happy Hour, steak and appetizers.
Betty Davis, Dek owner, said she won thanks to a huge, loyal local customer base downtown.
“We’ve been around for 11 years and people are finally starting to notice who we are,” Davis said. “It shows we’re awesome. We try to do good customer service and that’s what we base things on.”
Other multiple winners included the Slate’s Restaurant, Merrick Seafood and the Fish Tale Grill, which each won three awards, and Cabinet Genies, The French Press, Kindness Animal Hospital and Century 21 Birchwood, which each won a pair.
Dan Puleio, owner of Cape Cleaners, which won for best dry cleaner, said it was an honor to be selected and deflected the reason to his employees.
“It’s best to be best. You can’t get any better. It feels great. It’s because of the customers and my two workers (Jen Caron and Mayalin Corso),” Puleio said.
