Lee County operations make adjustments for Independence Day

The Independence Day holiday will result in some closures and schedule changes for Lee County operations. Here are the changes:

Animal Services

Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be open regular hours Friday, July 3, but will be closed July 4. The shelter will reopen Monday, July 6.

LeeTran

LeeTran will not run mainland bus or paratransit service on the holiday, but will provide trolley transportation to, and on, Fort Myers Beach. The Park & Ride Trolley will run every 40 minutes starting at 7 a.m. at the free parking lot on Summerlin Square Drive. It will travel back and forth to Bowditch Point Park, with the last drop-off on the mainland at 11:55 p.m.

The Beach Trolley will start service at 6:45 a.m. at Bowditch Park, running every 30 minutes to Lovers Key State Park. Service will end at 11:40 p.m. at Bowditch Park. The schedule can be found at www.rideleetran.com.

Libraries

All library locations will be closed on Saturday, July 4, and each branch will resume regular operating hours on Monday, July 6.

Parks & Recreation

Parks, pools and preserves remain open Friday, July 3 and through the holiday weekend. Administration offices and recreation centers are closed Friday, July 3. Recreation centers resume normal operating hours Saturday, July 4. Administration offices resume normal operating hours on Monday, July 6.

Solid Waste

There will be no change to residential collection schedules. All operations will be closed on Saturday, July 4. The Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, 6441 Topaz Court, which is normally open on the first Saturday each month will be open instead from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 11.

The Solid Waste Department urges all residents to recycle the paper, plastic, metal and glass from your holiday weekend activities.
