David Lee Root Jr. Annual Memorial Fishing Tourney set for July 18
Islanders can help support the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital by participating in the 12th annual David Lee Root Jr. Memorial Fishing Tourna-ment.
Debbie and Dave Root lost their son, David Jr., in a car accident in 2001 on Pine Island, which lead to the first tournament that benefited the fire department.
The Trauma Center is a specialized unit that treats victims of physical trauma blunt, penetrating or burn injury that requires immediate medical treatment in order for the person who has sustained such injury to survive.
The Trauma Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a trauma surgery team that is specially qualified to attend to traumatic injury.
The Captain’s Meeting for the tournament will be at D&D Bait & Tackle Friday, July 17, at 6 p.m., and the fishing action is July 18, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
D&D Bait & Tackle is at 3922 Pine Island Road in Matlacha.
The entry fee for the tournament is $65 per angler and $25 for youth anglers (12 and under).
This is a redfish, snook and trout catch-photo-and-release tournament. Even if you do not fish, you can participate in the festivities. To attend the tourney wrap-up barbecue, the cost is $8 per person.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for the event:
– Golden Hour Sponsor (Presenting Sponsor) – $2,500 – Up to 8 anglers; one reserved table at the awards dinner; company logo banner (provided by company); prominent display of company name and logo on banner and tournament T-shirt; mention in all media releases and promotions.
– Trauma Sponsor – $1,000 – Up to 6 anglers; one reserved table at the awards dinner; banner at the event (provided by company); company name and logo on banner and tournament T-shirt; mention in all media releases and promotions.
– Critical Care Sponsor – $500 – Up to 4 anglers; reserved seats at the awards dinner; company name and logo on the banner and tournament T-shirt; mention in media releases and promotions.
– Life-Saving Sponsor – $250 – The first 50 sponsors are guaranteed company name and logo on tournament T-shirt; additional recognition on tournament banner and in media. $250 includes 2 anglers.
