Wicked Dolphin release of Sunken Barrel USS Mohawk CGC Reserve sells out in less than an hour
Florida’s top craft rum producer, Wicked Dolphin, released a very limited run of the Sunken Barrel USS Mohawk CGC Reserve on July 2. Only 200 bottles of the Reserve were available for purchase at the Cape Coral Distillery, and sold out in less than one hour.
Doors opened for the sale of the Reserve 9 a.m. at the Wicked Dolphin Rum Distillery, and the line began forming before 7 a.m.
“We were ecstatic by the turnout and support of the local community, as well as those that traveled to be here for the release of our Reserve. The sale of these bottles goes to help two great charities, so we want to thank everyone for their support,” said JoAnn Elardo, owner of Wicked Dolphin Rum, in a prepared statement.
Since the initial announcement of the release, Wicked Dolphin had received numerous calls a day from people asking how to purchase a bottle, both from locals and out of towners, officials said.
Five Wicked Dolphin Rum barrels filled with distilled water were sent 90 feet down to the USS Mohawk Veterans Memorial Reef, and then raised 72 hours later. The distilled water was used to proof down already aged Wicked Dolphin Rum, creating a unique reserve. Wicked Dolphin Rum and Lee Reefs partnered to create the limited edition rum to benefit the Lee Reefs program and Special Operations Bionic Warriors.
The release of the Sunken Barrel USS Mohawk CGC Reserve comes just three years after the Mohawk was sunk for use as a Veteran’s Memorial Reef. One hundred percent of the profits will be used to benefit both artificial reefs and the ongoing efforts of the Bionic Warriors. The 750 ml bottles sold at $39.99.
The USS Mohawk CGC has become a premier dive destination in Florida. During its short time as a memorial reef it has been visited by numerous whale sharks, hosted an underwater art gallery, and now, on the third anniversary of her sinking, a new signature product emerges as her legacy continues to grow.
