John Carioscia, city councilman in District 2 and the lone incumbent running, easily took the top spot the four-way primary battle in his district on Tuesday with more than 43 percent of the vote.

He will be faced in the general election on Nov. 5 against Kirk LaGrasta, who was a distant second with 25.37 percent of the vote.

Michael Steven Bogliole, finished third with 17.68 percent, with Richard Repasky bringing up the rear with 13.9 percent.

In Cape Coral municipal elections, the top two vote getters in a primary advance to the general election, which is Nov. 3.

“I’m humble and appreciative of all the support. I’m glad they came out and voted and the results are humbling,” Carioscia said as he celebrated at Dixie Roadhouse.

“I’m excited, I’m energized and I’m looking forward to moving ahead and representing the good citizens of Cape Coral,” LaGrasta said at his celebration dinner at Anthony’s on the Boulevard. “Their voices spoke tonight.”

Carioscia said going forward he plans to let his last four years in office speak for itself where he supported the reboot on the UEP and was in office as the economy improved and the city started to reinvest in itself.

“I will defend my record and further define our achievements to move the Cape forward,” Carioscia said. “We stand on our own merit. The people have spoken and now we move forward.”

LaGrasta said he will also run on Carioscia’s record. During the candidate forums, LaGrasta criticized Carioscia’s voting record on items such as the UEP and the public service tax and the fire service assessment, parts of the city’s financial diversification tax plan.

LaGrasta said he will continue the attack in hopes of chipping away at Carioscia’s comfortable margin.

“I’m going to speak about the issues that are important to all the residents of Cape Coral. I will speak about his voting record and it speaks for itself,” LaGrasta said
