Posse Arena to hold Fun Show and Fall Festival Sunday
The Lee County Junior Posse Arena will have a busy day on Sunday, Sept. 27, when it holds a special fundraising jackpot race followed by a fall festival.
While an anticipated Bulls and Barrels event scheduled for Friday has been cancelled, The Fun Show and Fall Festival is expected to more than make up for it, providing family fun for everyone.
The event starts at 8 a.m. with exhibition pole bending and barrel racing and registration before the actual race begins at 10 a.m.
The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Lee County Posse group, primarily for their awards program at the end of the year, according to Bobbi Harrison, president of the arena.
The barrel race will follow 4D rules, meaning those of different abilities will have an opportunity to win. Money is awarded to the overall fastest and to those who are a half-second, second, and two seconds behind.
Exhibition rides are $5, pole bending is $20, while barrel racing is $30, with 70 percent of the registration money going into the jackpot. The prize money will depend on the number of entrants.
There is free parking and free entry for spectators and snacks and drinks will be for sale.
From 4 to 7 p.m., or shortly after the race, a fall festival will take place in the pavilion at the south end of the arena. Admission is either three canned goods or a cash donation, all of which will go to Harry Chapin Food Bank.
Among the activities will be kids games such as balloon pop, Go Fish, ducks, lasso the longhorn and more. Game tickets are 25 cents each or 24 tickets for $5 and 52 for $10.
“It’s something that if parents want to bring their kids out and have a good time, they can purchase tickets and maybe win some prizes,” Harrison said.
There will also be a bounce house, cake walk, dunk tank, cow patty bingo from 5 to 6 p.m., apple bobbing, a stick horse decorating contest and race, a 50/50 raffle and much more.
The Posse Arena was established in the 1960s to give area youth a safe place to ride and encourage horsemanship.
“That has been keep intact for all these years and we have a great group of kids with its own set of officers like any other club,” Harrison said. “They promote the organization and we teach them things that will be beneficial.”
