Registration under way for Bert’s Redfish Challenge in Matlacha

Bert’s Bar & Seafood Grill will be hosting the 7th Annual Bert’s Redfish Challenge charity fishing tournament to benefit Pine Island F.I.S.H. (Fellow Islanders Sending Help) on Saturday, Oct. 10. Over $28,000 has been raised by this event over the past 5 years.

Pine Island F.I.S.H. is a local non-profit organization that assists Pine Island residents in need with transportation, obtaining medical supplies, rent payments, utility bills, medical bills, etc. It also provides relief to non-paid primary caregivers for up to 4 hours per week and contact with homebound individuals by phone and home visits.

Pine Island F.I.S.H. is also the lead agency in the Pine Island Basket Brigade program. These programs are entirely free to those who need assistance and are solely funded by donations.

In the tournament, the first place prize is $2,000; second place, $1,000; and third place, $500 -based on 20 paid entries

Teams wishing to participate can sign up by contacting tournament director Jason Snyder at 239-349-1129 or by picking up a registration form at Bert’s Bar & Seafood Grill or one of the many local tackle shops.

Teams can also register at Bert’s Friday, Oct. 9, prior to the start of the mandatory Captain’s Meeting being held at 6 p.m. (team check-in will begin at 6 p.m.). The entry fee is $300 for a team of up to four anglers.

This event will also feature a raffle and silent auction for which organizers are seeking donations. Anyone interested in making a tax deductible donation can contact Jason at 239-349-1129 or bertsredfishchallenge@hotmail.com. Donations can also be dropped off at Bert’s.
