A Cape Coral driver has been cited in connection to a serious traffic accident last month.

Terry Albert Gavazzi, 73, 1828 S.E. First Terrace, has been found at-fault in the Sept. 9 crash on Hancock Bridge Parkway that resulted in himself and another driver being hospitalized with injuries.

“It was completed yesterday,” Sgt. Dana Coston, spokesman for the Cape Coral Police Department, reported on Thursday on the investigation. “The at-fault driver was cited for careless driving.”

Gavazzi was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound on Hancock in the 2000 block in the outside lane. At 12:03 p.m., he lost control and the SUV entered into a spin, crossing past the inside lane.

The Chevy hit the concrete median, crossed it and entered the eastbound lanes of Hancock.

According to police, the SUV then crossed the left turn and inside lanes. Entering the outside lane, it struck the front left side and the driver’s door of a Saturn S-Series, which was traveling eastbound.

The impact caused caused the Saturn to travel south, coming to a final rest in the grass between the road and sidewalk. The Chevy also traveled south and came to a final rest in the grassy area.

Both lanes of Hancock were closed for about four hours.

Gavazzi was transported to Cape Coral Hospital for treatment and later released.

The driver of the Saturn, Alexandra Nicole Konikow, 21, of 3328 S.W. Eighth Court, was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She has since been discharged.
