Health fair Saturday at Moose Lodge
A community health fair this weekend in Cape Coral will offer free screenings to the public.
The Lee Memorial Health System and the Women of the Moose Chapter 815 will host the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge 2199. The fair is free and open to all ages.
Karen Krieger, director of community affairs for the health system, explained that the health fair is a form of community outreach that enables them to educate the public and provide free screenings.
“It’s to help our community be as healthy as possible,” she said Tuesday.
Attendees can receive health screenings for things like vision, hearing, balance and glucose levels. There will be information on injury prevention, stroke, early heart attack care, congestive heart failure, sleep medicine, asthma, COPD and more. If an issue is detected, future resources can be provided.
“We help them with referrals and follow-ups,” Krieger said.
The services will be provided by the LMHS, Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, Hope Health Center Services and Home Instead Senior Care, along with other agencies and organizations.
Cape police and fire will be on hand, as well as Emergency Medical Services personnel.
“Kids that are there will be able to tour the fire truck,” she said.
Florida KidCare, a free discounted insurance program for children, will also have an informational booth on site. The program is open to youth ages 1-18 who are not currently medically insured.
“It’s a wonderful program to help parents make sure their children get their checkups and exams regularly,” Krieger said.
Door prizes and healthy snacks will be available for purchase.
The proceeds will go to the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
Organizers are hoping for a good turnout on Saturday.
“We have some health fairs filled with individuals, 400 to 600 people,” she said. “I hope, at least, we have 100 – hopefully more.”
Krieger encouraged the public to come check it out.
“It’s going to be fun,” she said. “It’s going to be educational.”
The Moose Lodge 2199 is at 155 Santa Barbara Blvd.
