Local man hurt in rollover crash ‘improving’
A man is improving at the hospital after being thrown from an SUV during a Cape Coral crash.
On Tuesday, Tritton “Trey” W. Cobb, 19, of 2793 Breezeway Drive, North Fort Myers, was listed in fair condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken on Oct. 6 following the accident.
At 9:37 p.m., Travis Joshua Morgan, 19, of 1413 N.W. Ninth Place, was driving a Chevrolet Blazer north on Del Prado Boulevard when he ran a red light at Pine Island Road, according to police. A Chevrolet Malibu traveling west on Pine Island in the inside lane had already started forward.
The front of the Malibu struck the passenger side of the SUV.
The impact forced the Blazer to rotate, and it rolled over toward the driver side twice. The SUV exited the roadway and entered the grassy shoulder as it rolled, hitting bushes and a tree before it stopped.
During the rollover, Cobb and Joseph A. Rodriguez, 19, of 633 N.E. Van Loon Terrace, were ejected from the Blazer. Police reported that neither were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
One passenger came to rest in the grassy area. The other struck the outside rearview mirror of a Scion, which was parked in a lot in the northeast corner of the intersection, before coming to a final stop.
Cobb and Rodriguez were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As of Tuesday, Rodriguez was in serious condition at Lee Memorial.
Morgan sustained minor injuries in the crash and was also taken to the hospital.
He has since been treated and released.
The driver of the Malibu, Cassidy Rae Fitch, 19, of 1939 S.E. 35th St., sustained minor injuries in the accident. According to police, Fitch refused medical transport on scene for her injuries.
There was minor damage to the Scion, which was unoccupied.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, police reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
