Optimal healing environments lecture next Wednesday
There is still time to sign up for a free lecture on optimal healing environments.
As part of the Healthy Living Lecture Series and Healthy Lee initiative, Dr. Wayne B. Jonas will present “Health, Wellness, Wellbeing and Resilience” next Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the New Cafe at Cape Coral Hospital.
Jonas serves as president and chief executive officer at the Samueli Institute.
Dr. Sal Lacagnina, vice president of Health and Wellness for the Lee Memorial Health System, explained that optimal healing environments extend beyond the physical aspects of health.
“It has to do with your mental health, which also really encompasses your emotional and spiritual health,” he said. “An optimal healing environment supports all of these things.”
“It’s all of those things combined,” he said.
Jonas will explain how to set up an optimal healing environment at home, as well as how to develop one within your community. The goal is to stay well and help prevent disease – self care.
“He will give information to help people understand what an optimal healing environment is and how you can actually create part of that environment at home,” Lacagnina said.
Jonas will also covers the basics, like exercise and nutrition.
“He’ll talk about all the things people need to do to stay well,” he said.
Following the presentation, Lacagnina will discuss with the audience the steps that the Lee Memorial Health System is taking to create an optimal healing environment for patients and visitors.
“Prevention is really the focus,” he said.
Seating is limited and registration is required.
As of Tuesday, seats were still available.
Lacagnina explained that everyone could learn something from the lecture.
“It’s unfortunate – most people only become interested in getting well only after they get sick,” he said. “Wellness really needs to start early on.”
Attendees will walk away with an action plan that they can put into effect immediately.
“But, people have to put the time and effort into staying well,” Lacagnina said.
The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions.
The Samueli Institute is a non-profit research facility with the mission of transforming health care through the scientific exploration of wellness and healing. Once employed with the National Institutes of Health, Jonas’ research included homeopathy, electro-acupuncture and nutritional supplements.
His current research includes projects on Information Biology, the placebo effect, cancer, biological effects of low level exposures and methods of enhancing stress resilience in military personnel.
